Here is how it would work: First, the program would provide everyone access to quality health care regardless of income. It would be run on a partnership basis with both the government and private industry proAnd the viding the know-how- . insurance would be financed for the most part as it is now done by employees and employers sharing the premium costs. The plan calls for low income families to pay no premiums; those with somewhat higher incomes would pay partial premiums scaled to income. This Program would cause only a slight increase in taxes, unlike some other proposals for national health insurance which would create a complete governmental system supported ty taxes. Medicare would not be affected. The need for Medicare would be reduced immediately and eventually phased out. The Healthcare Program is the basis for bills introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. and in Omar Burleson the Senate bv Sen. Thomas J. Mclntyrc One main distinction about this program is that the benefits would be gradually phased in as medical manpower and distribution problems are solved. The first beneficiaries would be those unable to afford health insurance, and people who are now uninsurable. Next would come the rest of the population, with benefits increasing as health services and manpower become more available. Ultimately, Healthcare would pay for 300 days of hospital care, 180 days of convalescence in a skilled nursing home, and 270 days under an approved home health care prom-- WW Prices April SPECIALS WEEKEND 6, 7 and 8 y y UNION MARKET g)rjI ib (SlHIIEIcSIE MUD I CiUClt STEAK I (D.-Tex- .) 3 S ). tut See us fora Vacation Loan.
