UTAH NUMBER 42 Helper BPW Club Elects Officers CARBON'S AND MINING re- minded today that proper care of the animals harvested is important to the success of any hunt. The department of fish and game noted that unseasonably warm weather often occurs during the deer hunting season. It was also noted that under state law it is illegal to waste game meat. Proper care includes bleeding and dressing of any animal immediately following the kill. If hung in the shade, the carcass will cool without danger of spoilage. Should flies be present, it is a good practice to carry an inexpensive light cloth sack or cover to prevent contamination from this source. The department said it was permissible also to skin the ani mal, provided evidence of sex was retained with the carcass. Immediate skinning will add to the cooling and ageing process of the meat. The meat should be kept as cool as possible until left at the processing plant or other final destination. Placing of an animal along the fender or across the hood of a car was cited as an often seen poor practice if good edible meat is to result from the hunt. WATCH FOR ELK Many deer hunters will be hunting in ranges where both elk and deer share the same habitat .Through error, or will-fu- ll malice, many elk are killed each year during the deer season. The department of fish anf game noted that each deer sea son several hunters pay a heavy penalty for this mistake. Sportsmen were aeain today asked to know their animal before shoot ing. The difference Is size, colorand gait ation, appearance, should be readily discernable between these two animals. SDortsmen were further re minded that any elk mistakenly or willfully killed means one or more less legal permits that may be authorized for the hunting seasons next year. It could be yours.
