Show A VOLUME NUMBER "45 past the half-wa- y mark In construction, Helper's new junior high school addition on Townsite costing' $307,583.00 is towering over one story abve the ground with all indications pointing toward a very beautiful Mr. building when completed. Orvi Call, general foreman of construction on the site for Davis and Butler, contractors, this week announced that if work continues at the present brisk pace, the roof should be on the building before bad weather gets here. From a set of plans loaned to the Helper Journal, a few of the many outstanding features of the new addition came to light. The building is completely fireproof, with walls of brick, reinforced by cinder Mocks. Floors and stairways are all poured concrete, reinforced with tons of steel, and the bleachers on the two. long sides of the gymnasium are also of concrete construction. Interior walls in most of the rooms are lined with tile to a waist-hig- h level, and in the cafeteria and kitchen areas the tile work extends up six feet. Door casings end window casing are all steel fabricated and of the latest design to afford ample light and ventilation. Over-al- l the building frontage added to the old building measure is over 122 feet, with the addition extenling back from the front 164 feet. First Floor Plan On the first floor of the building will be found, two new class rooms; one band room measuring 28 by : 39 feet with a uniform storage room and music room; a cafeteria of the most modern design measuring 22 by 7 feet with a kitchen attached that is 15 ft. wide and 22 ft. long. The kitchen area also includes ample storage space for food stuffs and has a special toilet facilities for kitchen personnel. Also on the first floor will be a lavatorie for boys and girls; a custodian's storage room and sevstore rooms for eral maintenance materials. Gym l Massive The largest space on the first floor is taken up by the gym floor which measures 8 feet wide by 95 feet long large enough for a regulation size basketball curt. This gym is flanked on the north and south sides by the seating arrangement for spectators,' and is elevated above the playing floor about six feet, thereby affording spectators a full clear view of the whole playing floor. Under the seats on either side of the floor are the locker rooms, shower rooms, equipment rooms, lavatories, and coaches rooms, and showers.
