Show Editorially JTIPEAKING By The Editor, Cliff N. Memmott MINING A HOW THE CARBON DINOSAURS RATE WITH THE "BIG SHOTS" VOLUME E Max Oliphant was the only Carbon Dinosaur player to team selected by sports rate a place on the first writers on the Salt Lake Tribune, when he was named to a tackle spot he most deservedly earned because of his brilliant play during the season. Happy Ray Plaga was named guard on the third team, and like Oliphant most certainly rated the honors he received. I have agreed with the sports writers on these selections, at least I won't argue the point, even though I think Helper's Hap Plaga was a better man than a third team spot gives him. However, I'll beef long and loud, as if it would do any good, at the gross misrepresentation of justice In ignoring all those line backs Coach Pres developed and who looked like to me in every game I saw. Take Jimmy Soarcelli, Kirk Alger and Mayne Cling-maDid anyone ever see three finer backs, who could do about everything with a football that a kid should be just able to do, and not one of them even rated an honorable mention? But that's natural considering the brutal way the Dinosaurs were treated by the High School Athletic association but that's another story, which will be found below, so If you're interested read on. Most everyone knows that Carbon was literally kicked out of the Big Nine a couple ot years ago with the feeble excuse that the distance from Salt Lake to Price was too far to haul their teams. They then relented just a wee bit and made a deal that at least one and maybe two Big Eight teams would play Carbon, MAYBE, if they so desired, but failed to name the teams or make it strong enough to give the Dinosaurs a leg to stand on thus they entered into the valley of indecision. Last year Carbon fared pretty good when they counted all the games they won, in the state as league games for them, and the Dinosaurs entered the state finals only to lose to Jordan. But this year it was different Carbon started off the season with one game for sure with class A teams in Utah and one tentative. The remainder of and class B teams. their schedule was with Then to break our backs down here the "Big Shots" counted Carbon's losses, but refused to count the wins, and one of the best Carbon teams in its history was shoved out of the running. Maybe next year will be different, at least there is going to be a noble try made by boosters of our county's only high school, so time alone will tell the tale. -cCc - 43 NUMBER Sum-merha- ys rs te te "In-Uta- h" PERHAPS THIS IS THE TIME TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT . . .
