But when the smoke of battle, and we do mean battle, had clean d away from the Helper park; sullen gang from the a crest-fallen- , capitol city had tasted defeat twice at the hands of as brilliant a ball team as ever rt presened Helper in any league. The final score was Pinney 4, Beckers Uinta 6. It was this big boy, Ernie Carna-vali- , local first baseman, who started Helper on its first win. With two out in the last of the first, Tony Kris-masingled, and Ernie, appearing in his first game as clean-uman, picked out the longest part of the park and rode one of Ken Price's fast ones over the fence for a homer, scoring Tony. He continued his pow-- j er hitting in the third and nearly re peated his pievious performance, v hen he doubled against the fence in deep center. Reposing peacefully on second he easily scored when Vic Waite not his second single in as many trips to bat. Pinney's first two runs, which came in the fifth, were unearned. Jack Smith, first man uP, singled and advanced to third on Lou Tezak's double Burns retired Lemon via the strike-ou- t route and then threw one low which got away from Curia, and Smith scored advancing Tezak to third. Again Pinky had his strike-ou- t ball working and Price struck out. but a passed ball by Curia allowed him to go down to first and Tezak to score. The old squeeze play was called into action by Managers Marcliette and Carmoni, and Johnny Allison laid a perfect one down and Mullins raced home with the winning run. All this happened in the last half of the ninth. Second W'n Impressive Making ammends for any misplays Memorial day, young Hairy Vogrenic really came through in tin second snatgame and almoot single-handeched a game from a furious Beverage team. It was Harry's terrific double in the fifth that scored Luke Carmoni. He later scored on, a single by Lindsey. Agair it was Vogrenic who broke u tie, after Pinney had scored two in the first of the sixth. Krisman walked; Carnavali singled; Waite grounded out; Joe Myers drew a walk and the bases were loaded with only one out. Joe Curia, batting for Carmoni, struck out and then that boy Vogrenic rifled one between short and third scoring Kris, man and Carnavali, and the ball game. A violent protest on the part of Manager Tedesco and the rest of the Pinney team resulted after Myeis had been trapped going to third after two runs had scored. Tedesco and mates maintained only one run should count, and a few fists began to fly before the law stopped the combat. However, both umpires Kidd and Bush ruled the second run had crossed the plate before Myers had been thrown out. Once more Helper's third baseman, Vogrenic, pulled a sensational he speared Lemon's over third base for the initial out in the seventh Martinivich struck out and Mattson flied out to Joe Myers in ight to end the second game. Vic Waite gave Beckers Uinta its first run in the second when he hoisted one over right center field fence for a home run; Manager Tedesco got the only extra base blow for his team in the second game with a home run in the first inning. Ernie Carnavali managed to maintain his .500 average Sunday when he hit 2 for 4 in the first game and for 2 in the second. Vogrenic got 3 hits in 6 trips to the plate Sunday. T..,ini entrant will have to be content with one game out of three Beckers played against the "Lowly Uinta" crew during the latter part of last we.k. Thanks to their lucky "rabbit foot," Pinney won the Memorial Day game in Salt Lake, when a couple of wild pitches and several errors gave tliem enough runs to emerge ictors by a 7 to 4 score. Earl Magann, who to date, has hurled a game against Provo. was on the mound for Beckers Uinta in the holiday game, and despite two wild pitches which probably helped cost him the game, pitched a brilliant came allowing only 7 hits. Pinney scored one in the third; two in the fourth and four in the seventh to sew up the game. The locals scored once in the fifth and added three more in the eighth. Ernie Carnavali, who last week was j sharing the league batting leadership with Randy Mosser of Magna, spank-u- l out a pair of singles to lead the locals and maintain his .500 average.
