MEMMOTT, Manager OPTIMISM NEEDED IN ENCOURAGING BUSINESS If any business or Industry is to succeed, the first Important thing is confidence in the business or industry itself. Besides this, it la very important that the manager, and his force of workers or assistants sell themselves, along with the article or product they are selling to the public. When reverses 1:1 one's business appear, the situation will not be ' helped by adorninc tie expression, and using the very negative approach on the prospective customer, of telling him about how tough things are; or, that the temporary recession has certainly affected your business, and tlif weather has taken its toll of profits out of the cash register. Maybe these things hdve happened, and maybe all the things you are telling your public are true, but, did you ever stop to think of the psychological effect it has on the customer. It is quite possible that he hadn't thought about any of the things suggested, but after calling his attention to them, he decides immediately that he'll get along without the thing he v as about to purchase. You have not only lost that sale, but have converted another crepe hanger, who will start telling his friends of his experience today. And thus, more confidence has been lost, than can be restored by all the advertising you can do of the opposite nature, during the remainder of the day. Leaders of industry, economists, congress, the president of the United States and others, have unanimously agreed that the present business recession is purely temporary, and within a short time conditions will have become readjusted to such an extent that normality will again reign. Optimism is a virtue which requires a lot of cultivation, especially when things look a. little dark. Rut the fellow who has learned to look at the future with a smile and maintain the attitude that there is a reason for all things, is the fellow who is really successful. Let's join the ranks of the OPTIMISTIC and greet the world with a hopeful smile.
