WATER LIKE IS BEING PUSHED work on the extension of the Helper city water supply at Fish creek is being pushed rapidly now and nearly forty men are expected to be working on the project by the first of the month. The laying of nearly a mile of new pipe to recently acquired springs is one of Helper's WPA projects which was commenced sometime ago In a block allott- ment amounting to nearly $18,000 and also included minor line re pairs as well. The city work Is being engln eered by City Watermaster August Lltlzzottl who Is directing the work of tho WPA. It Is expected that pearly a second foot of water will be obtained by the new mile extension which Is being made at the source of the present sup ply near Flab, creek. Dr. and Mrs. A. E. A legion committee to take over the program activities was named this weok by Post Commander James Catania and some really unusual features are being planned for the occasion. The Kiwanis club has already volunteered the sponsorship or the parade while other civic and service organizations of the community will be giveu various parts of the celebration program to sponsor. A huge parade, a program, park sports, industrial features, and a dance are the outstanding points on the program. The decision to hold a celebration this year as against the usual Helper Day was arrived at last wec-and tentative plans for the Fourth were discussed at a meetlast ing of club representatives Tuesday evening in the Grill cafe. Cliff Memmott was appointed to head an organization for the outlining of a calendar of the year's activities and designate an organization for each of these celebrations to be held in Helper. Helper Day was postponed by the Kiwanis club in spirit of cooperation and as an aid to a patriotic celebration on the Fourth, Helper Day has been tentatively set for August 26. HELPER TAKES TOP POSITION IN CEN UTAH LEAGUE Helper's entry in "the Central Utah league climbed into the top Sunday afternoon here position when big Dick Brasher hurled the locals t 41 win over the Dividend nine. Leaders Named Annual Award The .closing of the schools of Helper for another year today brought again to the public rye the annual American Legion citizenship contest for the boys and girls of tho local schools. Under auspices of Carbon Post No. 21, Glen BalUnger Tuesday In the assembly presented the award pins this year to Edith Brackett and Ernest Meslc. The awards are made annually by the post and winners are chosen on traits of courage, scholarship, leadership, service, character and companionship as dis" played throughout the year. Following the presentation, Mr. BalUnger spoke to the assembly on traits of character. "What the Flag Means" was discussed by C. R. Crlssman; and Commander Jas. Galanis presided over the program.
