YOLK BREAD you talk to a business man today about problems that are worrying him, nine chances out of ten he will bring up the subject of taxation. He knows that government must be supported, is anxious and willing to do his part. But he is beginning to question whether too many things are being done in the name of the government, which are outside the functions of governing and in the realms of business. The tax question is not yet as personal to the employe as it is to the employer because he has not yet seen his position in the picture as clearly as has the employer. As a matter of fact, the employe has more at stake than the employer. Take the case of a factory employing ten or a thousand persons. The tax burdens of the employer, local and national, are reaching a point where earnings which he would like to spend for expansion, are in many cases absorbed by taxation. Taxes discourage the investor from making improvements that would give employment. Who is the greatest loser here? If an employer finally is forced to cease operation, he and his family suffer as one unit in community life. But ten employes or one thonsand employes will suffer just as much as he does, by loss of their Monday, April 2, was set as the date for the next regular meeting of the Helper Chamber of Commerce at the directors' meeting Wednesday night. The meeting will include a "beer party," and the committee promises plenty of the foamy beverage, as well as the "ham on rye" and other fixings to embellish a Lutch well-serve- d Dunch. Plans for the coming Country Store and dance on the 31st are completed and constructive work is being done toward making the affair a highlight of the social year. A committee was appointed to take charge of the affair, C. J. Allen, M. O. Porter and M. W. Ross. The directors talked over various matters brought to their attention in connection with the year's program and attended regular business. It is highly probable that some project will be started immediately following the dance. What the first project will be is as yet undecided. The project simply is this: That these four counties, thru their boards of commissioners, request the state and federal government to establish two or three C. C. C. camps on these rivers during the winter season of 1934-3- 5 for the purpose of removing obstructions from the channels, dredging, building jetties, and otherwise making these streams navigable for tourist boats, to the end that the great scenic attractions of the river canyons, as well as the country tributary to the rivers, be made accessible to the outside world. Engineer Sheley assures us that the project Is not only feasible, but was surveyed and pronounced entirely practical by a corps of U. S. Army engineers in 1904. Mr. Sheley submitted to us the printed copy of the Army report, which states that the rivers can be made navigable at a very UHarrcn's THE GRILL CAFE Excellent Meals 21 Read All The Journal recently made in connection with TEN NEW MEMBERS Carbon Post No. 21, American the fifteenth anniversary of the Legion, has added ten members to organization of the National its roster by a membership drive Continued from Page One cooperate in requesting the establishment of C. At a meeting of the commissioners Monday action was urged toward the river development. The authorities heartily endorsed the plan suggested, and agreed to do everything in their power to advance the project. Suitable winter .... - . ...J ! , projects are difficult to find, as ill '" .... lustrated by the fact that six or seven camps are this winter located in southwestern Utah, where work of comparatively minor importance is being done by them. We are confident that if our four counties will cooperate in sponsoring this river improvement, we will have no difficulty in getting suf ficient camps established to carry the work to completion in one winter season. Your board, we believe, will quickly grasp the importance of ' this river improvement to your "I county. If the rivers are made easily navigable, permitting tour ist boat lines to operate, your county would derive many benefits, I believe this river development would do more than any other thing to develop your scenic resources. Meeting Called Mr. Sheley urges that no time be lost In getting the project un der way, since much preliminary surveying will be necessary. Therefore, we feel that a joint meeting of the commissioners of the four counties should be held immediately to make formal application for the work. Since Green River is rather centrally located, we have taken the liberty of asking the commissioners of Wayne, Emery and San Juan counties to meet with us at Green River on Sat-, m:'. urday, March 17, at 2 p. m., to go into this matter in detail. Will you not arrange to make this trip to Green River on the date mentioned ? Mr. Sheley will be present and will give us facts and figures and will outline the steps which we ought to take to get the project You'll 3408 HELPER, UTAH, MARCH THE HELPER JOURNAL PAGE TWO Golf Peau Doux GOLF BALLS 19c 3 for 500 Palmolive Soap 3 for Certified GOLF BALLS 39 c 3 for S1.10 'I Tennis Rackets 89c 9 14c Pennsylvania Tennis Balls 35c 3 for $1.00 Oxford Tennis Balls 'uxToHdSoa 3 for 25 c 3 for . 690 ACROSS the state or the nation, can handle business you matters or reach friends quickly, by telephone.
