GOING DOWN ORANGE The State Board of Equalization blazed the trail for the reduction of levies in this state for 1927. This they did by lowering the state school district fund from 4.S mills to 4.7 mills. If the old levy had been retained, the taxpayers would have been required, to pay out an additional .$70,000 for dis trlct school purposes. The Board of Equalization would have gone even further in their reduction and included the State General fund na(i It not been that there exists a deficit of nearly $5000,000 against this particular fund. This was a very laudable and commendable move on the part of the State Board of Equalization who have shown that they have the Interests of the taxpayers at heart. Following this action on thcii part many cities, towns, and counties throughout Utah are announcing decreases in their levies. This Is little short of an inspira tion to the Utah Taxpayers Association who now feel that economy- mlndedness is taking hold of the people in a substantial, telling manner. Important knowledge bearing upon the early history of mankind: is expected to be revealed to paleoiv-- ' tologists of the University of Chicago with the receipt there of the skeleton of a child believed to be more than 65,000 years old. The expedition unearthed an ancient village, buried beneath a calcium carbonate crjust. Near the skeleton of the child were found bones of animals but in such a condition that their usefulness to historians was negligible. d Colliers.
