Water supphes are reported to be in excellent condition (even the gr~at Salt Lake has risen several mches) · We can confidently look forward to a pleasant summer. • Salt Lake City Lines, our traction company, reports that th~Y have just complete~ a $34 rolllion project, started m 1944 when they began operations here. T~at is a lot of money. All old eqUlpment has been replaced, a large new office building has been erected, $400,000 has been spent for maintenanc e equipment, ~m1 $240,000 paid for s~reet pavmg obligations . We w1ll say that this company has made a remarkable record in the past -1 years. Coming from Salt Lake the 37 -member Swiss chorus is sponsored by the Draper First ward Relief Society, according to Mrs Irene Parker, president. The entertainme nt will consist of solos, trios, quartets, accordian music, and other special numbers. Albert Hepley is director of the chorus. Tickets may be purchased from the Relief Society presidency, at Rasmussens ' store, or at the auditorium prior to the program, Mrs Parker said. ·Direct Dial Service Betwee n Draper, Riverton Planned Plans for an important improvement in rural telephone service in the Riverton and Draper districts, which are served out of the Midvale exchange, were announced today by 0 R Garff, Midvale manager for the Mountain States Telephone & Telgraph Co. Equip· ment will be provided so that all calls between telephones in the R•verton-Dr aper area can be dialed direct, thereby relieving cor:.g~stion at the Midvale switchJ,oard, he said. To furnishe. this 3ervice, the company will mstall what is called a "rural automatic concentrating unit" at a point near Redwood 10ad and 1500 South. This unit . Will handle most calls between Riverton and Draper telephones, but calls to Midvale or elsewhere will continue to be handled by the Midvale operators. In order to carry out the new project it will be necessary to "re-center" the cable and open wire network serving the Rriverton-D raper district, and to expand cable facilities to Draper. Telephone lines will also be expanded, wherever practicable to bring service to people whose orders have been delayed due to lack of telephone equipment. The present Midvale -Riverton telephone cable will be used to furnish the 20 dial trunks required to handle business between the dial equipment and the Midvale office. This traffic will consist of calls requiring the services of an operator, such as information, emergency and long distance calls, as well as those to other telephones in the Midvale exchange not switched by the Riverton-Dr a• per concentratin g unit. All telephones handled under the new system will continue to receive rural service and will con• tinue as a part of the Midvale exchange, Mr Garff pointed out. Approximately 400 telephones will be connected to the concentratin g unit, and it will be necessary to change the present manual type telephone instruments to dial telephones before the cutover date, ~ • B R Anderson, Sandy farmer, says that someone stole his wa· gon from his place, but left the a;an-Carlo Menotti's comic op"bolster."
