BROADCASTER) By Jeannene Dowding A combined chorus of over 250 voices, under the direction of J Clement Crapo, will present Handel's "Messiah," Sunday, Dec. 22, in the Assembly hall on Temple Square by special permission of the presiding bishopric of the L.D.S. church, beginning at 2:30 p ·m. The 10 choruses to be sung this year include: "And the Glory of the Lord," "0 Thuo That Tell est Good Tidings," "For U nto Us a Child Is Born" "And ' Suddenly There Was With the earth. The Scriptural readings, as has been traditional for the last five years, wiJl be given by Miss Lu· cille Tuttle, dramatics director. An orchestra, consisting of 50 students selected from Jordan's extensive music classes and conducted by Mr. Donald Olson, will also assist. "This presentation will not be the chorus's first appearance this year." states Mr. Crapo. •'The larger part of the group sang several of the selections before the Utah Educational Conven· tion on October 12. Its size has been increased since then, how~ ever," continues Mr. Crapo, "and everyone has worked conscientiously to make this season the finest in Jordan's history." The presentation of the Messiah is sponsored by the Jordan High School L. D. S. Seminary, under the supervision of Prin~ cipal Carter E. Grant, and the three Jordan stakes. The Messiah will be presented in the auditorium to the Jordan High student body on Frl· day, December 20, at 11 a. m. Hundreds Attend Rasmussen Rites The largest attended funeral services in the history of Midvale, were held last Friday afternoon for Mayor B. A. Rasmussen, when speakers eulogized him as an outstanding citizen in every respect. Mayor Rasmussen, who was Salt Lake county commissionerelect, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, at his home. of a sudden heart attack. Services were conducted in the Midvale Second ward chapel of the LDS church by A J Sabey, bishop, who praised Mr Rasmus· sen's work in the Aaronic priesthood and various other ward and stake activities. ' "The greatness of this good man probably will never be known to the majority of the people in this community. Only those who have bee n intimately associated with him know of the magnitud e of his charitable na· ture and his love for his fellow men," said Mr. Sabey. Representing East Jordan stake were Henry G Tempest. president and Harry S Wright, member of the presidency, who also eulo· gized Mr Rasmussen for his char~ itable nature, his generosity and energy. 11 His opinions, his knowledge of business trends and civic affairs, together with his deep spiritual strength, made him a man of unusual ability. His successful work placed him almost at the top in his field of business civic and ecclesiastical work and his crowning achievement was his suc~ss as a husband and father,'' Mr. Tempest said. Other speakers included P L Lawrence, president, Twin Falls stake; Dr C N Jensen, former sup~ erinlendent of Jordan school district, and Henry Beckstead, who worked with Mr Rasmussen in , Tyler R Vincent (right), mayor of Midvale, and Allison (Fritz) Bills, councilman, were sworn into office at Tuesday night's meeting of the city council. Mayor Vincent is the high ranking member of the council by virtue of the longest service, and was apoolnted as mayor two weeks ago, to succeed Bern Rasmussen. county commissionerwelect.
