OSTLER, Reporter Funeral Held For Mrs Rhoda Frandsen Legion Fete Proves Most Successful Affair at Sandy The banquel and dance hun· oring returned servicemen of the Sandy community, proved to be one of the big est socia 1 events ever attempted in the city, when more than 400 people, including over 100 Worl6 War II vets, were served a hot dinner, at the same time filling the Sandy recreational hall to capacity. The affair was sponsored by the recently organized Post No 77, American Legion, and Auxiliary, assisted by the business men of the community, who donated liberally for the occasion. W 0 Boberg. post chaplain, was master of ceremonies. The welcome address was given by L E Peterson, and talks were by James Dag1iesh of ~Myton, state commander of the American Legion; G Leonard Larson, commander of Sandy post; Mrs Ce- celia Larson, president of the Auxiliary; Mayor Wilford Pierson and Bishop I L Sorenson. A silent tribute was paid to all the veterans who had lost their lives in the service of their coun · try. Other Legion and Auxiliary officials in attendance were: Harry Hickman of Salt Lake, national committeeman; Art Horsley, Salt Lake state adjutant; Mrs Wallace 'Jenkinson of Magna, district president of the Auxiliary; and Mrs Mildred Farrington, of Salt Lake, stat@ secretary of the Auxiliary. Speakers were Bishop I L Sorenson, President A D Brown, of Farwest stake in Ogden, and a tribute was read by Bishop Sorenson written by R D Young, former president of the Manti temple. Closing remarks were by J William Thompson. Musical numbers included preliminary music, Mrs Roxie Rich: vocal duet, 11Whispering Hope," Mrs Beth Sorenson and Mrs Essie Pettingill; violin solo, Miss Louise Frandsen, accompanied 1 by Miss Ina Frandsen of Gunnison; vocal solo, "In the Garden " Miss Norma Jackson of Ephri~m- The invocation was offered by w H Bartlett of Sandy 1st ward bishopric. The benediction was by Percell Alvey, president of the ward elder's quorum. Interment was in Sandy City cemetery. The dedication of the grave was by Peter Frandsen of Gunnison. ARMY MAN ADDRESSES DEMOCRATIC LADIES An interesting talk was given by Capt Theron Jones of the army, former member of the state welfare department, at the meeting of the democratic women's study group of Sandy, Thursday evening at the borne of Mrs Charles Rudd, with Mrs Madge Stapley, vice-president, in charge of the meeting. Capt Jones related army experiences. Following the meeting, refreshments were served. Hostesses included Mrs F A Orton, Mrs Roy Webster, Mrs Elmer S Johnson, Mrs G D Charlier and Mrs Stanley A Rasmussen. Mrs John H Shaw retqrned Tuesday evening following a week's stay in California where she visited her son and daughter-in-law, Mr & Mrs Rex Shaw at Berkeley, and her son, Merril Shaw~ Slc of the navy who is stationed at Shoemaker, Calif. Mrs Shaw also visited 'with Mr & Mrs William Mason at their home in Berkeley and also visited in Oakland. David Shaw, 4· year-old son of Mr & .Mrs Rex Shaw, who had spent the past 4 months visiting his grandparents, returned to California with his grandmother. The "Gold and Green" ball, sponsored by Mt Jordan stake MIA will be held Tuesday, Jan 29 at 9 p m, at Sandy recreation· al hall. The presentation of the nueens. and the coronation of the stake queen, will be special features of the evening, and a floor show will be presented following the presentation. Mr & Mrs Ole Ahlstrom observed their 51st wedding anniversary Wednesday Jan 23, at their home in East Sandy, with a family dinner. Mr Ahlstrom was born Feb 21, 1864, in Ephraim. Mrs Ahlstrom, the former Jane Stewart, was born May 25,1870 at Santaquin. The couple were married Jan 23, 1895, at Tropic, Utah, where they made their home until 22 years ago when the family moved to Sandy. Mr & Mrs Ahlstrom have 7 living children. They are: Roy Ahlstrom and Mrs Mary Winn of Salt Lake; Bland Ahlstrom of Sandy; Vie and Melba Ahlstrom and Mrs Maurine Unland of San Francisco, Cal, and Mrs Delma A Lansingh of New York.
