Friday night Miss Bette Ruth Olson visited with Miss Joan Coyte of Draper. They enjoyed a movie. Among these objectives is the general improvement of t~e corrununity 1 s civic and economic resources. Immediate steps taken included a meeting of the com- mittee on the 3rd Thursday of each month. C R Higgins was assigned the responsibility of securing t h e names and rank of the Granite service men and have them properly listed on a plaquard to be hung in the church. S Peter Petersen was appointed to wait on the county commissioners relative to the repairment of the county roads in Granite, and Chairman Alva J Despain was assigned to act as liason man between the service men and their families. Plans will be formulated later dealing with the community serv· ice the committee can render to the men in uniform and their families at the time of furlough and when the men will be mustered 0\11 o! the war effort. Mr & Mrs Roland Yates announce the birth of a baby, Monday, April 16, at the Cottonwood maternity hospital. A cottage meeting was held at the home of Mr & Mrs William H Gardner by the stake mission~ aries on Wednesday evening. Missionaries were Mr & Mrs Thomas Hamilton, William Perry and Bar· riet Bills. There were 14 present. Mrs H L Cooley and daughter, Stella of Helper, visited with Mr & Mrs Henry W Cooley and family on Sunday. Friends of Frank Spratling, 88, will be pleased to hear that he is reported to be much improved after a lingering il1ness during the entire winter and early spring months. The 2 daughters, Bettie and Jean, of Mrs Inna Evans of South Jordan, have both returned from a Salt Lake hospital recently. Bettie is recovering from a tumor operation and Jean from a rup· turcd appendix operation. The 2 daughters of Mr & Mrs Wilford Egbert, Ruth and LaW ana, pleasantly surprised their parents when they arrived unexpectedly from Callfornia, where they are employed in defense work. They have been spending their vacation visiting friends and relatives. Mrs Rulon Goff entertained at a birthday par ty ofr her nephew, Jerry Goff, on his 4th anniversary Saturday. Word has been received by Mr & Mrs William H Gardner that their daughter, Lt Elizabeth G ardner of the army medical corps, has landed safely in the Philippines. Heat and mosquitoes are very noticeable on the islands, she writes. Mr & Mrs Robert Campbell visited with Mr & Mrs E M Bateman on Saturday evening.
