Following a dessert luncheon, bridge was the diversion of the evening with prizes going to Mrs Kelvin Aylett and Mrs J Hollis Aylett. Mrs H E Phelps was a special guest of the club. Mrs Effie Hobbs Feted By Relief Society Board East Jordan stake Relief Society board entertained last week at a luncheon and a theater party honoring Mrs Effie Hobbs, retiring member of the board. Following luncheon at the Hotel Utah, the group enjoyed "Madame Curie," at the Centre theatre. Recent Bride Feted At Miscellaneous Shower Miss Norene Schmidt, assisted by her mother, Mrs Pete Schmjdt, entertained Thursday evening at a miscellaneous shower at her home on Sixth avenue, honoring Mrs Vere Densley, the former Lou Bodell, of Herriman. Games and l"'f!freshments were enjoyed by 18 friends of Mrs Densley. Mrs Henry Bodell was a special guest. Mrs Densley received many lovely gifts. Mrs Erdman Entertains For Birthday Club Mrs William Erdman entertained her birthday club at her home on Union avenue, Thursday. A one o'clock luncheon preceded contract bridge where prizes were won by Mrs Bryan Bird and Mrs T A Peterson. Mrs Allison Bills was a special guest. Members of Unity Club Hear Travelogue Members of the Unity club met Friday at the home of Mrs Walter Berrett in Union. A delicious luncheon preceded the club activity. Mrs Clarence Wardle gave a travelogue of her trip to New Orleans. Well~Dressed Mr & Mrs Henry Schmidt entertained at their home Sunday honoring Mr & Mrs Whitney McAllister. The evening was spent in viewing moving pictures shown by Mrs Frank Schmidt on Hawaii, Pearl Harbor, Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon and family pictures. After the pictures a buffet supper was served to the honored guests, Miss Luella McAllister, Mr & Mrs J C Richards Jr, Mr & Mrs Ernest Anderson, Mr & Mrs Frank Schmidt, Bishop & Mrs Lawrence T Dahl, Mr & Mrs Dell V Smith, Mr & Mrs Paul Schmidt, Mr & Mrs Clyde Hogan, William Shorr and the host and hostess. Mr & Mrs Schmidt entertained at dinner Monday evening for the following friends, Mr & Mrs Marlon Bateman of Sandy, Mr & Mrs Milton Lancaster of Copperton, Mr & Mrs Gilbert Lancaster of Salt Lake, Bishop & Mrs A J Sabey of Midvale and Mr & Mrs LaMar Burkinshaw of West Jordan. Children Present Program Numbers Lannie and Sherrie Walker and little Miss Beth Proctor, accompanied on the piano by Mrs Clyde Proctor presented musical and dance numbers on the program, when the Mothers' club of Salt Lake City, entertained at a banquet at the Hotel Utah Saturday night. The club is composed of mothers of Salt Lake whose sons are serving in the armed forces overseas. More than 125 service men attended the affair. W J Stake Relief Society Holds Board Meeting The West Jordan stake Relief Society held a board meeting at the home of Mrs Gwynne Page Thursday, Feb 24, followed by refreshments. The following ladies were present: Evelyn Nielsen, Mary C Turner, Mary Page, Esther Leak, Phoebe Mitchell, Laura J ensen, Jane Morgan, Rela B Beckstead, Julia Crump and Irene G Olson. The victory gave a clean slate to Midvale First, with nine wins and no losses, although East Midvale scored 14 field goals compared to 11 for the winners. Sorenson, center for the lossers, was the leading scorer, with a total of 12 points. J Olson, forward, was leading scorer for the winners. The loss placed East Midvale as second-place team. Union Second was not successful in entering the win column during the entire season, although it stayed in the league until the last of the games. Results of final games: Midvale First 30, East Midvale 29. Butler 39, Union First 19. Midvale Second gained a forfeit win from Union Second. Midvale First 31, Midvale Second 12. Union First ward is the first ward in the stake to bind sheaf since the East Jordan stake was divided. WEST JORDAN Mrs. Irena Olsen, Correspondent Joseph Elmer Williams, son of Mr & Mrs Millard Williams, of West Jordan, has been promoted from fireman first class to motor machinist mate third class in the navy. Young Williams entered the armed forces in May 1943. Hereceived his training at the machinist's school at Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas, and at Shoemaker, Calif, before leaving for overseas duty. He is a graduate of Jordan high school. Mr & Mrs George W Last have received word that a baby girl was born to Lieut & Mrs Arthur W Last, Feb 22, <Washington's birthday). Mrs Last was formerly Miss Virginia Pepera of Manistee, Michigan, where she is living with her parents. Lieut Last is stationed at the army air base in Pueblo, Colo. Cpl & Mrs Bill Myers returned home Thursday of last week from a two week's visit with Mr Myer's parents, and other relatives and friends in New York City, N Y. They report having had a wonderful time. It was Mrs Myers' first trip to New York and she liked it a lot. She was formerly Miss Fay Williams. Mr & Mrs William Barben, Mr & Mrs Howard Barben and two children, Geneal and Janice, attended the wedding reception of Alta Nielsen, daughter of Mr & Mrs Ernest Nielson of Hunter, and Hugh Sorenson of Salt Lake, who were married in the Salt Lake L D S temple. The reception was held Friday evening in the Hunter recreation hall. Mr & Mrs William Barben and Mr & Mrs Howard Barben attended the funeral services of A Day of Hunter, Saturday. Mr Day was the grandfather of Mrs Howard Barben. Edwin Gardner, son of Mr & Mrs Vern Gardner, who bas been receiving his basic training at Camp Tannin, Texas, visited with his folks for a week enroute to Ft Ord, Calif. He left Sunday. Mr & Mrs Arthur I Peterson left this morning for Hollywood, Calif to visit their son, Stanley, who is there studying voice culture both in speech and music. Brent Jorgensen, son of Mr & Mrs H W Jorgensen, who is in a naval school at the Washburn Municipal University at Topeka, Kansas, was home from Sunday morning until Thursday evening of this week. He stopped off at Denver, Colo., and visited with Heber Hogan and Junior Frost, who are training at Leary Field. Brent will return to Topeka for another semester. Mr & Mrs Carl Whitaker of Garfield entertained at dinner on Saturday for Mrs John T Booth and Miss Ardell Booth of West Jordan, Mrs T J Baum of Pleasant Grove and Mr & Mrs Ralph Newbold and children of Magna. The occasion was the birthday anniversary of Mrs Whitaker. The group were guests of the Whitakers at a show in the evening. Mrs Virginia Thompson of Salt Lake, and Mrs Retia Baum of Pleasant Grove, were Sunday visitors of Mr & Mrs John T Booth. The Misses Grace and Katheryn McAllister of Union, spent Sunday visiting at the home of their grandparents, Mr & Mrs A L McAllister. Mrs Hugh Goff and two children of Salt Lake, are house guests of Mr & Mrs Rulon Goff while Mrs Hugh Goff recovers from a bad case of influenza. Her husband is in the navy. Mr & Mrs LaMar Gardner and children, James and Richard, of Salt Lake, were dinner guests of Mr & Mrs Rulon Goff Sunday. Mr & Mrs A L McAllister entertained at a family dinner Saturday evening honoring their son, Whitney, who is leaving for the armed forces Monday. Covers were laid for Mr & Mrs Whitney McAllister and son, Stephen, and Miss Luella McAllister of West Jordan, Mr & Mrs Ben McAllister and daughter, Sally Ann, of Bingham, Mrs Grace McAllister and daughter, Jane, of Union and Mrs Robert Pollard of Salt Lake, who was an overnight guest. Mr & Mrs James A Bateman and Mrs E M Bateman attended the funeral of Mrs C Beeney in Grant ward last Wednesday. Mr Bateman was one of the speakers. Mrs Arthur Richardson was a luncheon guest Saturday afternoon of Mrs Frank Allan, who entertained for her ux indergarten club" at her home in Salt Lake. Pfc Reed Egbert, a marine and a son of Mr & Mrs Wilford Egbert, arrived home Saturday night from Camp Pendleton at Oceanside, Calif, on a 15-day furlough. Howard Pearson, son of Mr & Mrs Roy Pearson, left Monday evening for Navy air cadet training in Nebraska. Mr & Mrs Milo Pearson entertajned in honor of Howard Pearson at their home Friday evening. Features of the evening were music, singing and games. A number of prizes were given and refresbmen ts were served to 25 relatives. Mrs Marcia Jackson of Blackfoot, Idaho, mother of Carl Harmon~ is staying at the Harmon home. Don Jackson, a half brother of Carl, has been visiting the Harmons during the week.
