Show THE SENTINEL, MIDVALE, UTAH FRIDAY, JULY 19, 1940. Page Three Wash Brushes In Correct Way Creamy Skin Demands Right Beauly Care The girl who has a creamy skin must be exacting in her choice of make-up and particularly careful about cleansing the face. This type of complexion soon looks dingy if it isn't given special attention. In general, creamy skins are normal or only slightly oily. Seldom does one see an excessively dry one. The underlying tones of pale yellow, which are characteristic of them, are enhanced by make-up that has subtle orange lights in it. If your skin falls into this classification always remember to use soap and water before cleansing with cream. If it has a tendency to be oily, cream first, then wash with warm water. Select a rouge that matches the natural tone of the cheek when they are flushed from exercise or excitement. An off red will be better than a clear one or a pink shade. This doesn't mean, however, that you should go to the other extreme and find a strange orange-henna rought which, unless there is something wrong with your health, never in the world will match your natural tones. Lipstick, too, ought to match the natural color of the lips and emphasize the creaminess of the skin. The real test of your ability, whatever the type of skin which is yours, come in buying cosmetics when yotr choose the face powder. Don't let anyone try to sell you powder which is even a slightly shade darker than your complexion. It must match and match perfectly. Bear in mind in choosing and applying make-up that the more natural the effect the more charming will be the finished result. That is the reason that too much care ~nnot be expeQded in the choice o! the cosm~ti~s you use in order to· hav·e the most flattering tones for your individual coloring. And when you apply the cosmetics be- sparing with them. Emphasize your best points, bring out your natural coloring in a deeper shade. COLORS WORM WITH WHITE Wear white for summer _but brighten it with gay accessories. This is the rule of the season and has sufficient possibilities that there is no danger of monotony. Belts, slips, flowers, zipper fastenings, blouses, gloves, hats, and millinery are the items that are used in the gay colors. Those white suits which are so much jn vogue look much more interesting because of the bright blouses and other brilliant accents that are added. Lipstick red, for exampl_e, is striking and new with white. The darkez: ·red sha~e May wine-,-a}so is used extensively. · Kelly green and ye~lo.,v ar~ two other bright favorites while navy and black are liked by those who prefer to substitute dark contrasts. Burned saucepans should never be cleaned with soda. Although it will remove the burned portions, it will also make the saucepan liable to burn again. Instead, fill the pan with salt and water and leave for a few hours before bringing slowly to the boil. The burned particles will come off without any trouble, and there will be no after-effects as when soda is used as the cleanser. In prayer it is better to have a heart without words, than words without a heart.-Bunyan. Colorful Vegetables 1.i you cannot get parsley from your grocer, have a small pot of it g1·owing in your kitchen window when it is not in season. Once you have the habit of decorating your meat p 1a t t e r s with tiny bunches of this green, you will not want to be without it. Use parsley with fruit salads as well, for it makes a beautiful color harmony with the jewel-like fruits. Watercress is another deeper green that enhances meat platters. Once you have picked out a good brush, it is up to you to see that the bristles have a long life. No ammonia should eyer be used in the washing water. If the brush becomes very dirty, a little borax may be mixed with the water. But the best way to wash brushes is to dip them into the water and wash with a tooth brush which has been dipped in water and covered lightly with a mild soap. Wash the brushes with the tooth brush, trying to keep the back of the brush from getting wet. Never leave the brushes to soak in water. After they have been thoroughly cleaned, rinse them by dipping them up and down in the water and then wipe the backs thoroughly and leave to dry in a warm place. Washing brushes frequently is much ·better for them than having to scrub too hard and infrequently. They will last forever so long as treated carefuly.
