Every car driver should see to it that he does his share toward reducing accidents by exercising more care. If you must walk on the highway at night walk facing the stream of traffic on your side of the road. If your clothing is dark carry a white handkerchief where the approaching car light will strike it. Do not pick up an injured per~on Mi vale, Utah, Friday, April without any knowledge of his injuries. It is easy to tear the flesh with a broken bone and sever an artery or to injure the spinal cord. During the first two years of his administration President Roosevelt received an average of 40,· 000 letter a week, receiving as high as 70,000 in one day, a record which no other president has ever approached. Practically all movie actors and actre!'ses devote a part of each day to vigorous physical exercise under the direction of a studio gymnasium director. The reason for this is that picture producers insist that actors and actresses be in perfect physical trim and health at each appearance. Supervised exercise is regarded to be better than a reducing diet as it builds up vitality instead of tearing it down as is often the case when dieting is resorted to. Donald Loomis, studio physical director for movie stars, believes that weight should be controlled by exercise rather than diet. Loomis believes that a person may eat anything he likes if enough exerl !se is taken to burn up the surplus fuel. Proper exercise, he believes, make~. diets unnecessary.
