However, a represe ntative of the Utah Printin g Co., called at the Jor· dan Publish ing Co., office Thursd ay and request ed us to do the printin g for him, inasmu ch as the time was short for delivery and also due to the fact that he made a mistak e In figuring the work. Althou gh the School Board cannot see their way clear to partoni ze local printin g plants, there are other ways in which such matter s can be handled. And believe us, we are handlin g the matter in other ways, with much success. The School Board angle of the affair cannot be handled until the school board elections fall due. Then it shall be our purpose to place In these positions men who know values and can detect a "fluke" estimat e when they are placed before them. All we ask Is a chance to furnish the printin g to the Jordan School Distric t at a fair and reasona ble price. We believe In the principle of "live and let live." If you care to call the Journa l office, Midvale 178, we can give you the name of a school board membe r (one) who does not be· lieve in that principle. But we got the printin g, just the same, even tho it didn't come from the School Board. John Wester man, residin g at 61 5th Avenue, Midvale was giving, so It Is reported, a dutch lunch for some of his male companions at his home last Friday evening. Midvale police officers, passing along the avenue, heard sounds of &n unus'ual nature eminat lng from the house of said Wester man and walked around to the rear of the house to sa:tlsfy their curiosity. They beheld some bottled "home brew" reposin g near the door. They remem bered their oath to uphold the law, and knowin g full well that "home brew" Is not within the law, proceeded to take both Wester man and the said brew to the city hoosegow. Last Tuesday, Wester man's hearing was held before City Justice Meyers. She listened patient ly to the evidence then exercised her preroga tive, fined said Wester man $299.99 or as near $300 as was permissable. But pity then gripped her and she remitte d $100 of the fine but Insisted on defend ant serving 3 months In the City Jail If said fine was not paid. According to the City Marsha l Roy Steadm an, Mr. Wester man Is now engaged In paying off his fine at the rate of $3.33 per diem, food and lodgIng gratis. Let this be a lesson to Midvale's home brew hounds. Tamma ny shall not corrup t this precinct. EAST MIDVALE !!; UNION Peter C. Rasmussen CAN YOU FEATURE •••• •••• •••• •• •• I • ••• •••• 1 •••• •••• |
