The event, by sponsored Information, Tickets and Travel and the Veterinary Treatment Facility, welcomed Hill's furry members for an afternoon of animal activities. Dogs of all varieties (and a couple brave cats) enjoyed a paw reader, pet caricature artist, child and dog cake walk and treats. Lily Avram and her beagle, Penny, dressed the part, hoping to win e the pet and owner contest. Kevin Sullivan, the Ogden ALC commander, highlighted the successes of the Lean initiative during his spring commander's call May 26. Since its inception in the fall of 2003, there have been 65 Lean projects undertaken at Hill AFB. "This is an exciting time here for Lean. Our employees have bought into the idea and we are making huge strides in Lean," the general .said. Some of the achievements highlighted by General Sullivan include: The Civilian Personnel Division Implementation team looked at the overall base hiring process. The team set a goal of cutting down the hiring process down to 30 days. Results of the team's actions showed a time reduction of 78 percent, from nine weeks to two weeks in the hiring GS-1- 2 process. The Logistics Management Directorate wanted to Lean out the entire uninterrupted power supply process. Their goal was to reduce the overall process time by 50 percent. The results of this initiative showed that 69 percent of the individual processes were reviewed to date. The Maintenance Directorate Generator branch Lean team's goal was to reduce flow days by 78 percent (from 63 days to 14 days) . Their results show flow days have been reduced to 25 days and their mission incapable rate was reduced 67 percent. The Maintenance Directorate Engineering shop established a mobile trailer that can hold all the parts and tools for mechanics to use during a project reducing mechanic travel. Their goal was to reduce travel by 75 percent (from four trips a day to one trip a day.) Results of this Lean project show a reduction in travel by 65 per- cent. In a letter to field organizations, Gen. Gregory S. Martin, Air Force Materiel Command commander, said everyone, regardless of rank, age, sex or position, must be more aware of increased safety during the upcoming season where outdoor and recreational mishaps tend to rise. "We must make safety awareness a part of our everyday lives- - on and off duty." The general said people must make sure they and their family members use seat belts, helmets, lifejackets and other protective equipment all the time when doing related activities. Additionally, he said emphasizing alcohol awareness and its impact on AFMC members in a recreational setting, not drinking and driving and using designated drivers is a paramount need.
