After a minute, I recalled a time, not so long ago, when I thought of taking my life. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. What seems like the end of the world today, could be a story to tell your grandchildren. But you can't tell them if you're dead. I survived. Unfortunately, many in the Air Air Force don't. An active-dutForce suicide occurs about once every five days, according to the Promotions Fitness Examination study guide. That's frightening. This means about 73 airmen each year take their lives as a result of severe emotions. Deep depression or extreme anger may keep you from thinking rationally. I was mad and thought this was the only way to get even. I wanted to make those who hurt me pay for making me feel the way I did. Worst of all, the ones I intended to hurt had no clue of what I was thinking. They ignored me when I showed the classic suicidal tendencies like increased tardiness at work, a total change in attitude and increased drinking habits. And, they still didn't catch on. I even went to one of my supervisors and said, "I'm going through a really rough time right now and you don't even notice." Still, he did nothing. I had everything planned out, knew when and where I'd end it. I even knew what my note would say. My time was coming to an end. So, why am I still around? The biggest reason was my mother. During my darkest hour, she called me in England and told me she loved me. She said she was feeling down because I wasn't going to be home for the holidays and it was bumming her out. Mom also told me she always knew she could count on me to cheer her up when she felt low. When I hung up the phone, I cried. How could I put my mother through what I was selfishly considering? What would she think? Would she blame herself? I couldn't do that to my mother Post-Date- d 801-882-40- 01 T that she would think it would never get Check Loans Payday to Payday Signature Loans Collateral Loans We Can Tailor A Loan To Any Credit History 2182 TOOELE W When I read about a woman who recently jumped from an apartment building with her two children, I was shocked. Don't drive when angry. Wait until the emotions are in control before getting behind the wheel. Don't drive when distracted. A vehicle can't be kept on the road if a person can't keep his or her mind on the road. When driving at night increase the following distance, avoid looking into oncoming headlights, use the lane marker on the right as a guide, keep headlights and windshields clean and don't overdrive the a car should be able to stop headlights in the area lit by the headlights. When driving in snow and ice al ways keep windows clear, reduce the risk of skid by slowing down and shifting to a lower gear, if necessary. If a skid does take place, steer in the direction the car is headed and don't brake unto the car is in control. When driving in rain and fog reduce speed, use the headlights' low beams to reduce glare and drive in the tracks of the car in front for better traction. Sand, gravel, even wet leaves can reduce traction slow down. Also, avoid potholes. The lack of sleep is also a road hazard. It rivals alcohol in killing Americans on the highway. Before trying to cram a week's worth of activities into a weekend consider the following tips. Depart fully rested. Driving at night after an exhausting day at work can put someone to sleep forever. Read medicine labels. Even cold remedies may cause a person to become drowsy and impair driving. Shift the eyes. "Highway hypnosis," staring at a fixed point, may result in a permanent trance. Open the window. Fresh, circulating air may help avoid drowsiness. Break up long trips. Stop to stretch the legs occasionally and, if possible, change drivers. |
