How about getting the Navy's Blue Angels or showing what a Harrier jet does? The refueling of a helicopter would also be impressive. It would be nice to have other services come and show some of their assets. After all, Capt. Scott O'Grady was rescued by the Marines and the Navy and since they helped him and he is now assigned to Hill, it would be a good gesture to thank them for their involvement. QWhen I We agree! Having aircraft and units from all services on display during a Hill AFB Open House and Airshow is a goal we strive for each time we plan an event. More than a year before our open house and airshow, formal requests are sent to the Department of Defense office responsible for scheduling military airshows. We ask for major demonstration teams such as the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, U.S. Army Golden Knights, or the Canadian Snowbirds. Our request is reviewed, along with requests from all other bases, and a determination is made as to whether our event can be sup4" ,t"" " ported and by which team. While we are waiting for the decision, we send out requests to each branch of service asking for their support in providing a variety of aircraft for Photo by Bill Orndorff Maj. Gen. The Commodities Directorate Landing Gear Division wasn't able to have the floor refinished during hours because there are only three hours, between 1 and 4 a.m., when the building isn't occupied by workers. The weekend wasn't available because two overtime shifts were working. The entire operation was very closely monitored by the LI Safety Office and every action which could have been taken was taken to minimize the dust.
