William Lawson is quick to share the credit for the achievements that earned him the 1995 Air Force Technician of the Year award with his at the 649th Combat Logistics Support Squadron. "I would rather it be an office or squadron award," Lawson said. "It wasn't anything I did on my own." Lawson said he was lucky enough to come into the squadron when the Air Force was doing some high level work. He developed the concept of prepositioning Aircraft Battle Damage Repair kits at different points in the world so that when the time came for deployment of the unit, they would be ready much faster. These kits include tools, sheet metal and other equipment necessary to repair an aircraft. "It's a restructured process so we could get out of town quicker," he said. TSgt. William Lawson He won the Air Force Materiel Command award last year and was presented the award by Maj. Gen. Condon, Ogden Air Logistics Center Commander. "I had no idea I was going to win the AFMC award," he said. The Ogden Air Logistics Center "Gold Level Center of Excellence" award was presented to him in 1995 for the implementation of the quality programs, which streamlined the mobilization process. Lawson also enjoys going to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs to help issue personal equipment to incoming freshman cadets. He said it's interesting to see the young cadets saying goodbye to parents or getting off a bus to enter milfour-macomAdditionally, his squadron also recently got tasked to provide a mand and control team to direct AFMC forces. These teams will work in close contact with different theatre commanders. The capability to support this program was developed by the 649th CLSS. Lawson will travel to Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs, Colo., in the fall to the annual Air Force Logistics Conference where he will officially be presented with the AF Technician of the Year certificate and plaque. Lawson has been in the Air Force for 15 years and lives with his wife in Lay ton.
