The ' ceremony, held at the Officers Club, included the presentation of awards in four categories by Maj. Gen. and Mrs. ' Pat Condon. A "Special Friend" award was also given. The 34 nominees were classified under four categories. The, first category honors those who volunteer their time I and do not hold formal jobs. Paid employees of Hill who e ' contribute their time with activities and make up the second and third categories. She volunteer two hours a day, seven days a week and is credited with implementing i better procedures for sorting, cleaning and organizing . donations and getting the excess to other community organizations such as the Salvation Army. She has also helped organize the annual Christmas party for 150 base children. In addition, she also volunteers about 12 hours a week at Hill Field Elementary Gloria Olsen School. The other winner is responsible for helping make the base hospital a more friendly place. Gloria Olson contributes her time at the information desk. She also sews "surgical buddy dolls" that are used by the surgical staff to explain basic procedures to children about to have surgery. She was the head of the gospel music program. She also takes an active role in the Enlisted Spouses and Associates Club and volunteers 0 hours at other organizations. 10-2- Contributing to the future c Dee Events Center Weber State University Martin Stott has been a scoutmaster for the Trapper Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America for 11 years. He also volunteers at a local young women's program. He spent more than 1,000 hours last year contributing to others and often uses his leave for these organizations. He participates in many fundraisers and works with the Great Salt Lake Council. He works in the Technology and Industrial Direc- Martin Stott torate. "Special Friend" , Judy Condon presented the Special Friend award to' Susan SchankeL She is vice president of the Northern Utah Air Force Association chapter, which has cont child tributed to the waiting spouses and single-paren- care programs. Her efforts will be expanding to other Air Force bases. She is also involved in other base activities such as the AFA Chili Cookoff and the AFA Charity Golf Tournament. Susan Schankel Giving to the community EGBSQ The Hill Trading Post was recognized for making contributions to the base and its members. Donated items are provided for free to all active duty members and below. Items and their families in grades the little range from clothing and furniture to toys forreceived ones. During last year, some 2,000 families some type of assistance. The volunteers there gave 1,500 hours to the community. The Trading Post also assists the Salvation Army and the Ogden Rescue Mission.
