Show 10 July 13, 1995 Hilltop Times Changing the way we do business ISO-900- by replacing 0 Harvey Schoenheide Quality Air Force Office The implementation of the International Organization for Standardization quality system may or may not bring about changes to the way we do business. There always has been a requirement to control nonconforming products in and other standards which will be replaced by MIL-Q-9858- MIL-I-45208- ISO-900- A 0. A nonconforming product may consist of material received from a subcontractor to be used on an end item or it may be an aircraft or subassembly undergoing modification. In each case there is a requirement for the supplier to establish and maintain documented procedures to ensure a product that does not conform to specified requirements is prevented from unintended use or installation. The controls that ensure this requirement is met shall provide for idenF-1- tification, 6 documentation, evaluation, segregation (when practical), disposition of nonconforming product, and for notification to the functions concerned. Documented procedures describing how nonconforming products should be handled are tools. They are not intended to hinder or harass the activity, which sometimes seems to be the case. If properly prepared and used, they are merely an instruction! what-wi- ll when a nonconformance mil specs authority for the disposition of a nonconforming product must be defined. Repaired or reworked products shall be reinspected in accordance with the quality plan and documented procedures. What this all means is when the hole is found to be misdrilled a set plan is initiated that should include the following: Identify the discrepant hole. 2) Document the discrepancy. 3) Evaluate the problem. 4) Segregate the discrepant item (if small and removable, place in specially marked lockable crib). 73 a 1) 5) Qualified and certified person- - be dona... inel review- and.provkle disposition instructions (a through d above). fied. 6 Comply- - with' the, disposition f Let's review a likely scenario that and inspect. could happen on an aircraft produc7) Document and record all action line. tions pertaining to the discrepancy.
