Show 24 June 1 6, 1 994 Hilltop Times Commodities Directorate issues challenge The Commodities Directorate and the 649th Munitions Squadron are jointly sponsoring an afternoon and evening of fun and entertainment June 24, beginning at 3 p.m., at the Officers Club. All organizations are challenged to compete in two events: car "stuffing" and car pushing races. All base civilians, contractors, enlisted and officer are eligible to compete. 2nd Lt. Scott May said, "LI is stronger, faster, and smarter. we'll . . kick. your struts!" Prizes will be awarded. Spouses and guests are invited to observe, cheer and dance. The O'Club will serve drinks and snacks in the club's parking lot. Music and dancing will also be outside. For team sign-u- p contact May, Ext. or Connie Nance, Ext. by Wednesday, June 22. Where they're biting net The fishing Here is the latest report (June 10) from the Utah Wildlife Resources Division for the Northern Region of the state. Note: Most major waters statewide were heavrainbow trout ily stocked with catchable-sizein early June. Stocking of catchables is usually scheduled every other week on heavily fished waters. d Northern Region Blacksmith Fork Anglers may now keep eight trout. However, only one may be a cutthroat or trout with cutthroat markings. Slot limit has been removed above second dam. Salmon fly hatch should be ending. Fair fishing. Has been Causey Reservoir stocked. Use salmon eggs near the inlets. Tributaries are closed. Catching a few nice Kokanee. Chalk Creek High and muddy from runoffsnowmelt. East Canyon Reservoir Fair fishing from shoreline for 8 to rainbow trout. Trolling with pop gear and night crawlers is working well. Good fishing for Upper East Canyon Creek browns. Echo Reservoir Lots of catchable-sizefish stocked last fall some fish up to four pounds were also planted. Some are being taken from boats, along with a few small rainbows. Catching a few catfish at the inlet. Stocked recently. Fishing Farmington Creek pressure light. Water is high. Fishing slow. Farmington Pond Stocking every other week. Holmes Creek Reservoir (Davis County) inches. Fair to Catching largemouth bass 10-1- 4 good fishing. Bluegill are spawning. Hyrum Reservoir Anglers are catching nice rainbows and perch in range. Boat anglers h Bear Lake Fishing is very good for lake and cutthroat trout. A lot of fish are being taken. Fishing from a boat on the east side of the lake seems to be the best producer. Fish are being taken by shore fisherman on the east side and off the marina on the west side. Boat launching is available only at Rainbow Point and First Point on the east side of the lake. Marina near Garden City is still under construction and probably won't open until July 24. Beach launching of boats is difficult because of rising water level. Bear River Catching quite a few channel catfish between Corrine and bird refuge. Beaver Creek (Kamas) Fair for rainbow and brown trout. Stocked recently. Birch Creek Open reservoir, fair for rainbows. d spillway. Trolling with Super Dupers is producing nice rainbows and an occasional kokanee. Still running high and Upper Provo River muddy. Rockport Reservoir Catching some nice rainbows. Boat fisherman doing best. Recent netting showed good numbers of rainbows with a few up to 18 inches. Smith and Moorehouse Reservoir Reservoir is open and rainbow trout are being taken on bait. South Fork Slow for brown and cutthroat trout. Runoff high and muddy. Uinta Lakes Mirror Lake Highway is open over the top. All lakes along the highway have been planted with catchable rainbows, except Mirror Lake. A large snow drift is blocking vehicle access to Mirror Lake. Catching rainbows from last year in Mirror and Trial Lakes. Weber River Upper river catching some nice browns and few rainbows. Lower river not' stocked yet. A lot of private property along the river make sure you get permission! Willard Bay Crappie are through spawning and are moving to deeper water. Catfish fishing is picking up. Spawners are moving in along shore. Good walleye fishing using a bottom bouncer sinker and crawler harness. Troll near rip-raWalleye inches are being taken. Excellent fishing for bluegill. Kaysville Pond Fair fishing for bullheads and channel catfish. Kimball Creek Good for small cutthroats. Stocked once with catchable rainbows. Water level is normal and clear. Logan River Cutthroat trout limit is one. Files and lures only from Card Canyon Bridge to Red Banks Bridge. River above Red Banks Bridge closed as of Jan. 1, check new proclamation. Impoundments are being stocked regularly. Lost Creek Reservoir Good fishing for small rainbow trout with cheese baits and larger cutthroats on worms. Boat fisherman seem to be doing better. Mantua Reservoir Closed until July 1. Mill Hollow Reservoir Road is closed until r June 20. Then expect delays because of road construction. Newton Reservoir Catching some rainbows, perch and bluegills. Best fishing early and late in the day. Try trolling with pop gear trailing a flatfish or worm. Catching a few rainbows up to 18 inches.. Bluegill fishing is good in the early morning. Ogden River Fair fishing for rainbows. Good catches of brown trout in the canyon. Flows vary with runoff. Flows are muddy. Pine view Reservoir Crappie fishing is still good. Good fishing for mud cats in shallow bays. Try deeper water for perch. Porcupine Reservoir Fishing has been good for rainbow trout. Few fishermen, should pick up as water warms.
