Show April 15, 1993 EQUAL helps enlisted members find assignments - RANDOLPH AFB, Texas (AFNS) To help people better understand and use the Enlisted Quarterly Assignments Listing system, the Air Force Military Personnel Center recently answered some frequently asked EQUAL questions. Q. What is the EQUAL system? A It is a system that processes eight assignment matches per year, four to overseas bases and four returning from overseas. EQUAL lists assignment requirements available for each upcoming cycle. The listing tells what is available, by Air Force Specialty Code and grade, at particular locations. With this information you can fill out your Air Force Form 392, Airman Assignment Preference Statement, to better align your preferences to Air Force needs. Q How do I use the listing? A The list shows, in specialty code and rank order, the assignments the personnel center intends to make. AFMPC compiles each list and releases it to all military personnel flights four weeks before actually making the assignments. The tables below show the timing of advertising and selection for each cycle. If you are in the continental United States, review the overseas listing for your AFSC. Then review the countries listed to determine if you'd like to volunteer for one or more of those countries. If you volunteer for a country, you are vulnera ble for selection for any base in that country. Complete your AF Form 392 and turn it in for update at your personnel flight or orderly room. Since requirements may change, you need not limit your preferences to those advertised. If you cannot locate any desirable locations, you can update your AF Form 392 with your desired preferences, or wait for the next quarterly listing. If you are overseas and would like a consecutive overseas tour, AFMPC advertises overseas requirements about six to eight months ahead of time. The center will consider you for the assignment if the reporting month is equal to your Date Eligible to Return from Overseas month or the two months following your DEROS month. For example, someone with a November return date is only eligible for a Consecutive Overseas Tour assignment if the reporting month is November, December or January. Review the overseas listing for your specialty and determine which location or locations you would like. Then update your AF Form 392 accordingly. If you do not volunteer or if the center does not select you for a COT, review the overseas returnee requirements listing when it becomes available and select the CONUS locations you prefer. The personnel center advertises the returnee listing four to six months before DEROS. If you are eligible for an assignment, but do not volunteer for one of the requirements, the personnel center will ' still match you for a CONUS assignment. Normal minimum requirements for overseas assignment are 12 months for first-terairmen and 24 months for second-terand career airmen. n In addition to requirements, you must be eligible for reassignment; for example, not be under Article 15 punishment, on the control roster, in drug or alcohol rehabilitation, have a rating of two or lower on your latest enlisted performance report, be able to obtain retrainability and others. Overseas members are eligible for reassignment when they complete their original tour and any DEROS extensions. If your return date is indefinite, you are eligible for a consecutive tour anytime following completion of your tour. The personnel center will consider you for a stateside assignment after a DEROS. you This is the first of two articles answering commonly asked questions about the Enlisted Quarterly Assignments Listing System.
