When you call Ext. or send on LOGDIS or OfficeVision to ID "ACTION," your comments will be recorded and staffed through the agency responsible for action. Please give your supervisor and chain of command the opportunity to work with you in answering questions and solving problems before calling ACTION LINE. This will help me better serve your interests through ACTION LINE. Items of base-wid- e interest to the Hill work force will be published in the Hilltop Times. Maj. Gen. Dale W. Thompson Jr. 1 1 , J- attire Proper to the fitness center go the west area in Bldg. 1277 quite often. When I first started going, I would work out in the clothes I had worn to work. Now they tell me we can't work out in work clothes or street-typ-e clothes, that we have to change into jfl I In shorts or sweats. see other people working out in their work clothes and military individuals working out in their uniforms. If that's the policy now, why doesn't everybody have to follow it? I II 4 The employees at the fitness center annex in Bldg. 1277 are correct in informing you that athletic attire is required while using the equipment. Current procedures indicate, "... all patrons using benches and Nautilus (including sprint equipment) must wear proper workout gear. No fatigues, jeans, belts with buckles, pants with rivets or back pockets with buttons are allowed. Proper gym attire is required. Shirts must also , be worn at all times in the weight rooms." These procedures were established to help prevent damage that rivetsbuttons, items in pockets, perspiration, etc, may cause. It is very costly to repair and replace machines and upholstery damaged by such items. Fitness center staff have recently been rebriefed concerning consistent and uniform enforcement of fitness center policies and procedures. They regret any inconvenience this may have caused and hope you understand and agree with the logic behind this requirement. Loud and inconsiderate A lot of people drive around the base with their stereos turned up so loud you can hear it from one end of the base to the other. These people are so inconsiderate, but I'm fold there isn't much security police can do about it. Is that true? Speeding in the parking lots is also a problem, particularly the parking lot by the airmen's quarters and the chow hall. There is no traffic speed limit sign posted and I see people barrel through there all the time, especially on weekends. Can something be done about that before somebody gets hurt, because it is really a hazard? Although it is inconsiderate to drive with car stereos Mariner, the only rule which prohibits it is one of common courtesy. If the driver does something which causes the security police to stop the vehicle, the SP may ask the driver to keep the music low. Many drivers are not aware that they are disturbing others. I agree that people drive too fast through our parking lots and other congested areas. Speed limits in all the base parking lots are 10 mph. obSecurity police do enforce this, and if you serve a violation, you may file a complaint with them. Please try to obtain the license plate number so they can identify the violator. I ask everyone to think twice before driving carelessly. It's better to prevent an accident than to try to reconstruct one. The road to your area, New Jersey Street, is a secondary road and, therefore, receives preventative maintenance before tertiary roads such as those by the dorms. The day of the New Jersey Street overlay, the construction area was barricaded and an alternate path made available to route vehicles safely around the construction near the north base landfill. The detour was properly identified. The road by the stable is being paved as part of the five-yepaving plan. It is the main access to the Army's Rail Shop and is an important base roadway. This work was identified . more than two years ago and is being accomar plished by contract. You are correct that dorm area roads are in need of repair. The early bird special you mentioned with Coke is a promotion for Coke products, where they pay for the advertisement. As for private companies offering more, a quick survey of several local companies found they do not offer the package we do. Tickets for local amusements and events, including Delta Center activities, are sold to their employees at cost. One company has its employees pay dues, which entitles them to participate in group activities like tours and parties; other companies offer discount tickets to their employees as an . employee benefit. The ticket and tour program Hill offers is a business entity of the 2849th Morale, Welfare, Recreation and Services Squadron. They receive discounts on special events when private companies do not. I believe our overall program is superior to the ticket discounts offered by other large businesses throughout Utah. road Rough On Aspen Avenue, just south of the Rail Shop where the railroad tracks cross the road, they have laid new tar. The fitness center staff cleaned and sup-J- f plied the restrooms you're talking about the day before you mentioned. Unfortunately, we have a few people attending softball and baseball games who have no respect for other people's property or privileges. Civil engineering plumbers had to be called to assist with the mess that was left in the They are now monitoring and cleaning the restrooms on a daily basis instead of every other day. If the vandalism and destruction continues to occur, the facilities will be closed. It is too costly for civil engineering workers and the recreation staff to spend the amount of time and resources they do in cleaning up after senseless vandalism and destruction. I would appreciate help in reporting and identifying those who are responsible for this vandalism. If they have to clean up the mess, I'm sure it won't happen again. I Commodi- ties Directorate in the Maverick AGM65 production unit and that was what the article was about. I don't understand why the people on the bench have to find out about something that directly affects their jobs from the local newspaper. Why can't management disseminate information to their people on the bench instead of letting them get hit in the side of the head with it when they read the paper? il The information in the newspaper article you referred to came from Congressman James Hansen's office after his legislative aide, Kathy Clark, toured the Maverick production area. The press release was made from the congressman's office with no advance notification that it was imminent. Copies of the press release were circulated and made available to all armament division workers and a copy was posted on the bulletin board as soon as it was received. I'm sorry you missed seeing it. Li's management is tasked with holding periodic staff meetings and will continue to inform all workers of any significant events affecting their area as they become aware of them. Thanks for your concern. |
