Explain pass and ID policios If the and identification 77000, I've been informed that pass and registration does curtail its operation on the fourth Wednesday of each month it does not close. This curtailment : rI I would like to be able to help you; however, your comment is too broad. If you would care to specify some particular organizations or supervisors, I'll be glad to look into the specific situation. In all fairness to our GS employees, while it may appear they are leaving, we conduct numerous meetings daily which require a tremendous amount of information crossflow. Many people in the GS ratings are involved, and although they may not be at their desks, they are fully involved in the information crossflow. '. Purchase of mountain Duces unwise a time when we are trying to save the money, why would the 419th Tactical Fighter Wing order mountain bikes for $120? I would like to have this investigated because I think it is unwise to spend money on those bikes when they don't use them that much. 0At As this Action Line addressed a 419th TFW issue, I asked for their position. The 419th has advocated using government-purchase- d bicycles for many years as they provide economical transportation which equates to time and money. At today's salaries, it doesn't take much of a time savings to pay for a $120 bicycle. The mountain bikes are a very cheap model, so they may not last as long as the more conventional bikes, but when we order a generic bicycle, we take what the Air Force sends us. The bicycles are used by more than one individual and in areas other than the hangar. Bicycles save time and money and are, therefore, a good investment. Yl 1 one-spee- d Road work dosorvos a compliment 0 First of all, I would like to compliment the folks who worked on the road at the South Gate over the Columbus Day holiday. I think it was great the base took time to think about the employees and do the work over the holiday. , I do have a question about the road repairs on the southwest and west side of Bldg. 225. It is creating a traffic hazard in the mornings and it has been going on ' for nearly two weeks. Why is it taking so long when all have to do is pour a couple yards of cement? they i Thank you for complimenting civil engineering on the South Gate Drive project. The two other areas under construction required concrete and because of budget delays at the start of the new fiscal year, money to purchase the concrete was not available. However, concrete has since been placed and the road was opened to -- A traffic on Oct. 16. well-bein- car Thompson Jr. Ogden ALC commander Service station not honoring ad base service has a station sign out saying beat anybody's prices on tires. I called six different tire companies today to get price quotes and. they were all lower and included the mounting fee, for which the base charges an additional $9. When I asked them about their policy, I was told it would have to be the same exact make of tire and I would have to go to the company and get it in writing. , If they are going to advertise that they have the lowest prices on tires, then they should carry it out and have the lowest priced tires or we will be taking our business QThe Kudos I would just like you to know how helpful the base exchange service station has been and thank them for the service they have given me. I recently took my car in to have it worked on and they were very accommodating as to my time and what I needed, and they did an excellent job. Although the cost of the repairs was considerable, it was a lot less than off base so I would like to let you know what a good job they do. Please forward my f We apologize for any misunderstanding or incon-- 4 venience. The base exchange policy on tires is to meet anybody's published price as long as it is the same brand, style and size. The customer must bring in a newspaper ad or some other proof of the selling price and the BX will honor that price. There is no charge for mounting tires purchased at the BX service station. You were misinformed on the mounting fee". There is a charge for balancing and for road hazard warranties. Employees at the service station have been instructed on being more explicit when informing customers. Thank you for your favorable comments on the BX service station. They have been forwarded to the service station manager. Don't forgot tho rest of us would like to comment on all that is 0 will off base. thanks. : . - LINE. Dal W. Gon. Moj. How about cutting our shift too? While I understand your pride in the military pro-- r fession, I'm sure you understand that our entire military structure is based upon civilian leadership, from the president as commander-in-chieon down through the secretary of the Air Force, etc. Civilian leadership has historically joined with military leadership in a successful partnership that has led our country since its inception. This corporate effort has been particularly successful at Hill AFB. I believe as professionals, both military and civilian g and leadership have as their main concern the mission success of Hill. Who leads whom is not the issue, it's how well the team pulls together to meet the challenge. In that respect I would challenge you to revise your concern and focus on what we as a professional Air Force team are here to accomplish. f, calling ACTION LINE. Please give your supervisor and chain of command the opportunity to work with you in A1 f 11 As a career military officer I would like to say that I think it is a sad day when our new organizations put senior civilians in charge of colonels in the Air Force. We have several new organizations now where the civilian is listed over the colonel Shouldn't military members be in charge of the civilian employees? It is my understanding that the training is not so intensive that they should be able to conduct it on a continuous basis without closing their doors at all. Also, why do these contractors need to change their IDs every year? The waste there is apparent in the nums ber of expended in issuing new ID cards and when there are no significant changes to these pictures individuals. Other clerical requirements are also completed. Although some services are reduced, pass and ID still services all emergency requests, retirement of military and civilian personnel, urgent identification media needs, and individuals who have traveled to Hill from outside the local area. In fact, customer turn-awais very limited. On the day you visited pass and ID, the customer influx was above average. If you had visited pass and ID earlier in the week, or the first part of the following week, you would have still experienced the same situation. The expiration and renewal dates of contracts are not controlled by pass and ID. The situation you encountered occurs at varied times during any given year, and is a requirement that must be completed accordingly. . Procedures dictate issuance of contractor identification cards. ID is normally issued for duration of the contract with an expiration date that coincides with completion date of the contract. When contracts are extended for short periods, the ID is also extended (no reissue). If the contract is extended for a prolonged duration or is renewed, then new IDs are required. This policy is essential for positive retrieval of all IDs that are accountable ' and no longer valid. "kv . The reply addressed the legality of the raffle, but failed to point out that it is not possible to donate sick leave. Only annual leave can be donated for use by another person. I apologize for this oversight. Point of contact for the specific guidelines of the Leave Transfer Program is Diane Mabey in the Human Resources Directorate, Ext. 76142. f It's always difficult to predict the weather at this time of year. The base policy is to wait until we have three days that have an average temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit before we activate the base heating systems. Unfortunately, when we are between consistently cold or hot weather, the temperatures will not be as comfortable as we would all like. As for space heaters, they consume more electricity than many of our facilities are designed for, and as a result, the fire risk is very high. Although this reply did not get your heat turned on any sooner, I hope it answers your questions. & |
