Shannon Ogden ALC Public Affairs Office Better inventory keeping is result- ing from cooperative efforts between members of the Directorate of Distribution and the Information Center at Hill AFB. And the effect is being felt wall-to-wa- commandwide. (U.S. Air Force Photo) Get F-1- 6 flight Colonel Semeta, Brent D. Col. R. R. Semeta, base staff judge advocate and Brent D. Wart, Utah U.S. Attorney were flown by the 421st's Capt. Paul S. Madera May 6. Colonel Semeta said the flight would help Mr. Ward, who handles many Air Force-relate- d cases, better understand the base's mission. Inventory specialists are working toward a 90 percent accuracy rate throughout the command after alarming discoveries showed Air Force and other Department of Defense inventories less than 75 percent accurate. Beginning in 1981, Congress and the media criticized the Navy for inventory deficiencies at Norfolk NSC, Va. The revelations proved "unacceptable and impacts adversely on our budget credibility and ultimately on our material readiness posture," said former Deputy Secretary of Defense, Paul Thayer. Two years later, Air Force Logistics Command conducted a similar audit of 500 items and found an accuracy figure of only 72 percent. The one piece of good news concerned the Ogden Air Logistics Center research which calculated the accuracy rate at 82 percent or 10 percent better than the command average. Shortly thereafter, "We established the Pacer Inventory enhancement program and decided an inventory accuracy of 90 percent was required to maintain our material readiness," said Ann Mary Inama, systems analyst. Hill inventory officials More work will close one street on the Hill AFB west side from Monday, through June 10, according to officials at the 2849th Civil Engineering Squadron. Delaware Street, between Dogwood and Acacia Streets, will close at 7 a.m. Monday when a contractor starts trenching along the street. The trench will be for a the installation of a new steam line, CE officials said. People are asked to take alternate routes during the construction period, they said. For more information, call Roy Reed at Ext. 73302. assigned Ms. Inama to the challenge and she commenced several years of workincluding initial development of the program. "Due to the fact that Hill people manage 380,000 items, the job of inventory was doing a unfeasible because of the time and manhours involved," Ms. Inama said. "Target 90 (the enhancement program's official name) was setup to identify the probable conditions in the inventory system." According to computer programer, Jan Houskeeper, the Information Center staff teamed with Ms. Inama to develop a system that ultimately offloaded various mainframe supply data systems. These data systems, she said, are normally inaccessible due to the time involved in extensive programming and available resources. The center's computer supplied the otherwise hard-to-gdata and the distribution trained perprogrammers sonnel to use the system to identify out of balance areas. "This was accomplished by randomly selecting a 200 item sample to be inventoried each week," Ms. Inama said. "After a few months, distribution analysts used the center's computer to select items for the sample inventory that were previously in error.". While in place at Ogden ALC, the idea is pending around the command. Ms. Inama recently briefed the command staff and feels acceptance could be soon. In the meantime, "I've briefed the Navy and the Defense Logistics Agency and have gotten some very enthusiastic responses." ll out-of-balan- ce Clocd drivo sol fer today The Hill AFB blood program manager has announced dates for blood drawings during May. According to Art Thompson, all blood drawings will be held at the Thorton Recreation Center, Bldg. 460. Blood drawings are set from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and 29. "This is the time of the year when we have the highest need for blood," said Mr. Thompson. He said that due to several accidents and illnesses last month, more blood is needed. et , , "It's always unfortunate when people are put in a situation where blood is needed," he said, "however, it is fortunate that they are able to get the needed blood without cost or inconvenience." ; Mr. Thompson urges all Hill workers and residents to give blood during one of the two sessions this ; month. fimni in r?7Arm .?: ;FTICM, TEE APPLES OFYOUn EYES!!
