TOP TIMS news military From grease i to computers, automation change s unit's operation ponci Is Members of the 1881st Communications squadron took a step into the fu- ture when they automated their equipment status board. ' For years, equipment status had been maintained on a large grease board display. The old system was cumbersome and the commander and chief of maintenance had to visit the job control section to check the overall communications status on Hill AFB. The new system makes the overall operation of the squadron a lot easier, 1881st officials said. Development of the system was a joint effort by MSgt. Gordon Horton and SSgt. Brian Johns, squadron controllers, and Gary Perry and Mike Reader of the Directorate of Communications Computer Systems. Their system uses color graphics terminals, located in the maintenance control center, to display the status of all work in progress. Now, communications problems are displayed on a color monitor using red, amber or green highlights to indicate the impact of problems, said squadron officials. i . "V (U.S. Air Force Photo) MSgt.
