The 388th Tactical Fighter Wing's Capt. Tom "Wings" Wingo I realized my jet was dropping bombs differently. Capt. Tom Wingo -9- made those changes and won the 30-degr- ee dive bomb competition during Gunsmoke '87. "During the first practice day at Nellis AFB, (Nev.), I realized my jet was dropping bombs differently," he said. "I wasn't quite sure why, but I knew I 9 had to correct it fast." Corrective action meant "Wings" discussed the phenome- non with his maintenance personnel and the result of that discussion speaks for itself: dive bomb, a total of 2.75 meters in 30-degr- ee four attempts; 20-d- e- gree low anglelow drag, tied for fourth; levand in the 200-foel bomb event, he ot finished second at 4.75 meters. Captain Wingo was in the running for overall Top Gun honors, but an average strafing day lowered him in the standings. "There was a lot of pressure at Gunsmoke," he said. "But, it's a great competition, especially when you win." |
