An article in last week's Hill Top Times suggested that it was hard to enforce such a law, but according to Security Police traffic planner Gerald Clements, law enforcement personnel rpasismb. have the right to enforce any violation of the law. "Utah state law says persons in the front seat must be buckled up," said Mr. Clements. "But, while on base it is the law that all persons in the automobile buckle up. Be assured we can stop people for violating the seat belt law." For a mere $5 and only three minutes of time, all civilian and military employees on Hill AFB can participate in a program that could save their : life. V':r-- . The Morale, Welfare and Recreation Division, in conjunction with the Davis County Health Department, is offering blood cholesterol screening in an effort to reduce heart attacks. The screening will be done in Bldg. 249 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Monday through Friday only. The convenient, accurate screening will give an blood cholesterol level diagnosis. a Only couple of drops of blood obtained by a finger prick will be required. The blood will be run through a computer and the results will be available in one or two minutes. Those with high cholesterol results will be referred to their own on-the-sp- ot physician., "According to recent medical surveys, elevated blood cholesterol seems to be a necessary precursor to developing arteriosclerosis, which causes heart attacks and strokes," said Gena Blonquist-Black- , chairperson of the screening. "Cholesterol accounts for more than half of all heart attacks and is the most common of the three major risk factors for them. Smoking and high blood pressure are the other two," Ms. said. As a result of the screening, individuals who learn their cholesterol level is too high can modify their diets to bring it down to an acceptable range, such as cutting their intake of animal fat. "By taking advantage of Hill's cholesterol said, screening program," Ms. Blonquist-Blac"we can become part of saving 250,000 lives each year and reduce the $60 billion annual cost of cardiovascular health care."
