He did ixit lit this but 1 neither wrote to him dot answered h,a letter. On the lsth of February, Mr. Hill caiua to thia city and instead of cowing to eee me went among my frieoda and lied about ma. Among other things ha eaid was that I waa smoking inordinately and that I used druga to conceal the eiuell of tobaeoo. After tolling all the lies he could and duiug me all the harm that waa in hi power, Mr. Hill left thia city, to take bis way to Ogden oo March l'J. On March '11 I telegraphed to different plaoee along the route, demanding a retraction, and aaying that I would go before the New Kngland conference and prove him to be a liar, and ask for hia removal. One of my telegrama reached Hill at Cheyenne, aa I waa adviaed by telegram. The neit day lr. Fernley received a dispatch from Hill aaying that he had talked about me w ithout any proof, and thdt hia statement had been without foundation. ki y. fue truth of the matter ia that the Ogden University it, nothing but a hole in the ground. I waa elected president, and was given the opportunity to earn my own salary and eipense. The balance waa to go to the University. - I have kept a strict account of every receipt and item and my books are at the disposal of the bourd of directors w henever they w ant them." Mr. Small showed hia books and vouchers for every lecture he has made with items of expense. "The truth of the matter is" he concluded that the University is not eutitled even to what collections money I have except hud taken up at different churches. The other money was the result of my brains and efforts. I have the money, however, and they are welcome to it whenever they ask for it or want it." MR. HILL'S REPLY. Commercial reporter called on the Rev. J. Wesley Hill last evening and showed him the above, to which he replied: "First, Mr. Small.savs that upon his election to the presidency I was made secretary of the University. This is false, for I had occupied the position of secretary for over a year prior to that A time. "Second, He again eavs, 'from the first I did not like Mr. Hill's actions, and after I had detected him in some very shabby business, I entirely ignored him. He did not like this, but I neither wrote to him nor answered his letters.' Does he refer to my business transactions with him, iff which at different times by direct loan by sight drafts on him from his creditors, and one from his wife for $100, he obtained from me about 8100? Does he refer to the business in which, after directing me to draw on him for a portion of thia amount he sent two drafts back to the Citizens bank protested? "But he says that he did not like me from the first, and that I did not like it because he had not written to me. Yet I now have on tile letters received from him since his election to the presidency last May, down to the second day of the present month. In order to show just how much he has liked me me, I quote from his letter bearing the date of January 29th, 1891, the following: 'I lore you wore than I do my own kin. (The Italics are his.) I do not say this to curry any favor with you or from you, but because it is true, and because I have shown to thousands, by word and deed, that it has been true.' And yet Mr. Small attempts to show to thousands in this interview that it is not true, that he perjured himself in .this letter and acted the part of a fawnThe truth is, that this ing hypocrite. Setter is a reply to one from me in nhich I arraigned hm for dishonesty, declared that he was not acting in good faith, and that the people of Ogden were asking the question, 'What does he do with the money he raises?' Replying to the last questien, he says in this letter, dated January 29th: 'As to the leading men in. Ogden talking about me, when they earn the right to question my acts by doing something themselves, then I may feel a necessity to reply to tlwm. I do not care to enter into detail on the tobacco question, but will say that I never charged him with attempting to conceal it by the use of drugs. I did say that he was an inordinate cigarette smoker, and that he carried about with him a very superior quality of perfume as a disinfectant. "Third Small again falsifies when he says that he sent messages to different places along my route home, saying in ihem that he would go before the New England conference and prove me to be a liar and aBk for my removal. I admit he sent numerous telegrams after me, but in all of them he threatened me with indictment, saying that he would send an otlicer after me with a requisition for my return and prosecution. no retraction madk. "I see in this interview that Small continues to reiwrt me as having retracted my charges against him. This is without the shadow of truth, as I have constantly refused to retract, and in fact added other charges to those first made. In his telegram to this city, dated April Sth, he says: 'The charges made by Hill and Fratklin are the same malicious slanders that Hill retracted by telegram on March 2(5th.' If this be true, how are we to account for the following telegram, the original of which I hold:'Philadelphia, March lUst, 1891. J.
