Every society in the Union is represented, the largest delegation being from the First Presbyterian church of Salt Lake City. There were twenty-liv- e delegates present from that church. At 10:45 the topic, "How to prepare for a Chriation Endeavor State Convention" was presented in an able manner by the president, Rev. J. B. Thrall of Bait Lake City. The work, and duties of officers, committees and members were carefully mapped out. ' The general-- - discussion of this topic was opened by D. Th convention adjourned to meet at this time next year at Salt Lake City. THE SOUTHWESTERN, e Its Western Brahch Terminates "Id the Air." Now that the presidents' agreement cancelled tbe pool which prohibited the Northwestern from extending its line from Ft Casper, Wyoming to a junction with the Central Pacific at Ogden, that road will be compelled to close the gap, in self defence. The road is completed s the distance and has ample capital to complete the line.. Nothing remains but tbe alternative of a terminus equal to nowhere, or to build two hundred and fifty miles to Ogden, where it can compete for the best carrying business in the west. three-fourth- Poll van V X . Wbite, Jis stove into one or tne tanks anjfi lt fellowship and cooperation, by Messrs Axton and Tollee of Salt Lake City. The topic, "Suggestions for Special Work by Christian Endeavor Societies of Utah" was by C. H. Moorman, of Ogden, and Mildman Murphy, of Salt Lake City. They emphasized personal work and the use of the Word. A good christian worker must be full of the Word so that he can quote the Bible readily. The last topic of the morning was, "Christian Endeavor and the Church." The speakers were Revs B. F. Clay, of Salt Lake City; Frank Barnett, of Ogden; F. G. Webster, American Fork, and Frank S. Forbes, of Provo. All agreed that the Y. P. S. C. E. movement is of the greatest assistance to churches in 863uring unity of work and activity abng all lines of christian labor. Just before the adjournment of the morning session, Rev. Fuller, a returned missionary from China, was introduced. His pictures ot heathenism were strikingly vivid. Mr. Fuller has a plan of raising money by two cents a week subscriptions. He expects to raise $150,000 this year from the Y. P. S. C. E. Societies in the United States for missions in China. Following this address came adjournment for lunch. f The convention was called to order promptly at 2:30 p. m. Devotional exercises, were led by Rev. A. J. Bailey of Ogden. The following five-minu- papers were presented: "Christian Endeavor Eye or the Lookout Committee," by Mies Anna F. Hulburd of Salt Lake City. The "Christian Endeavor Hand the Social Committee," by Mrs. W. H. Whitney of Salt Lake City. The "Christian Endeavor Heart the Prayer Meeting Committee," by Miss Jessie F. Holmes of Lehi City. These papers brought out clearly the duties and methods of these important committees in the Young Peoples Society of Christian Endeavor work. The topic "My One Talent" was discussed under three heads. Th first, "How to Find It," by . Miss MaryE. Knox of Smithfield; "How to Train It," by Miss Anna F. Hadley of Mt. Vernon; and "How to Use It," by Misa Florence A, Blanchard of Ogden. Miss Ella R. Hereman, ot Logan, and Master William Burr, of Salt Lake City, each gave a very pointed paper on"The Characteristics of a model Christian Endeavor Society." The general- discussion upon this topic was opened by, O. H. Ward, of Salt Lake City. H4Y was followed by Mf. C. E. BrainarA,of Ogden. It might be said that when he starts a scheme it generally matures. The many friends of Mrs. Mary Smith, wife of Wm.
