Theoi:tdldo world has learned of this city and its many resources through the Liberal government inaugurated two years ago, and every real estate man and euterpriBic business mm knows wbU an impetus will be iriven to bueineas here when it is known ih it the Liberal party retains control of the government. It will dampen the ardor of the investor should the anil mncement be made that the "Citizens'-F- a ple's" party had carried the election. One firm which loans money in this investment company, city for an told a reporter for The Commf.kcial vefterduy ta.it hia company had wired him to know if there were any truth in the statements made that the "Citizcns'-l'eoplo's- " party would carry the next election and if "there were any danger of such an event they should cease loaning money here on real estate, as they did not have confidence in the advance of the city if it went out of the Liberal control. e LAFKKXTZ THE John H. Carruthers, the Trime Mover, Makes a Statement. John IL Carruthers, the gentleman who originated the Ogden Clay company, wishes to state in refutation of the report in yesterday's Commercial that, far from putting "wind and nerve" into that c vmpany, he put $11,000 into the enterprise, and, furthermore, that he had had six years' experience as a manufacturer of pressed brick. lie further desires to state that the clay in use by this company is of ns tiue a quality as can be found in this Bection of the country and equal to anything in the west. It was thoroughly tested, he says, before the plant was started, to the entire satisfaction of the stockholders. As to the failure of the company to succeed the past year, he claims that it was entirely due to the neglect of stockholders in paying their stock subscriptions and to defects in the iron used in making the machinery. was out turned The " brick fine and extra of quality had the stockholders fullilled their promises the plant would have been paying today. As to the machines used, the company which manufactured them admitted that the iron was directive and that Mr. Carruthers was in no way responsible for their breaking, and the manufacturers agree to put in now machinery or refund the purchase money, as desired. Mr. Carruthers also desires to state that his connection with the Ogdon Clay company has been entirely at the solicitation of "the stockholders, and that the salary paid him wns set at ligures to suit the directors' ideas and not his own. It is to be hoped that the difficulties of the Clay company caused by these unfortunate delays and breakages may be satisfactorily adjusted, so that the company may resume business at an e irly date this spring.
