Pool No. 1, Bldg. 520, is an indoor facility and located in the Hess Fitness Center. This pool is open except for occasional maintenance. Patrons are authorized to bring one guest to any of the three pools; however, family members or years of age are required to take a swim guests test before being allowed in the pool without a guardian. The test will show the ability to do three things: swim 25 meters, tread water for 60 seconds year-roun- d 6-1- 6 and dive to a depth of five feet and recover an object. Patrons under six years of age must be accompanied by a guardian 16 years or older. The guardian is required to be attired in a swimsuit and supervise the children. Persons 16 years or older are not required to have a guardian. Competitive swimmers between 5 and 24 years old are invited to participate in the Hill Flyers Swim Team. Practices are held Monday through Friday at Pool No. 1, from 4:45 to 6:30 p.m. Swim meets are held usually once or twice a month throughout the intermountain area. Competition is divided into age groups and entry fees vary from 50 to $1 per event. Fees apply to sponsoring the club and help defray meet expenses. There are a variety of programs available for those who enjoy swimming. One is a program sponsored by the American Red Cross designed to encourage individuals to swim regularly until 50 miles or more are reached. The activity is not a marathon or endurance contest, but is structured to improve physical fitness of the swimmer. During the first three miles, the only requirement is for the swimmer to complete at least 400 meters during each visit to the facility. The 400 meters do not have to be a continuous swim; the swimmer may stop and rest whenever necessary. At the completion of 50 miles, the American Red Cross chapter will award the swimmer a certificate, pin and emblem. Connie Wages, the base aquatics director, says there is a current need for a diving coach. Anyone interested in the position should contact her at Ext. 74617. Daily, yearly or summer passes are the most economical and may be purchased at any pool. They are honored at all aquatic centers. Fees are from month to month. The daily cost is 75c. Individual passes are $18 for a yearly pass and $9 for a summer-onl- y pass; family passes are $40 per year and $27 for summer only. P pro-rate- d Summer Jones (I), daughter of SrA. PRO TIPS by Mike Nash, golf pro ETIQUETTE TIPS by Charlie Hanson, marshall PRO TIP: I Hubbard Memorial HillAFB 1 1 1 You arrive at the golf course three hours before tee off to work on your game, instead ot improving your swing, you go to the first tee exhausted and filled with so many swing thoughts that you have no chance of playing your best. You have tried to do too much at the wrong time. If you do arrive early, and want to improve your game, use that time to practice your short game. This practice will do you more good and will not confuse or exhaust you. ETIQUETTE TIP: At Hill AFB Golf Course you must at all times wear a shirt. This rule is watched closely and strictlv enforced. |
