He also belonged to the Catholic Patty Worth Officers' Wives Club By The recipients of seven scholastic achievement awards for high school seniors were selected by the Hill AFB Officers' Wives Club awards committee at Weber State College recently. The OWC presented four of the awards. The first award was given to Matt Bennett, son of Col. and Mrs. Logan Bennett. Matt graduated from Layton High School. While in high school, he was on the honor roll, active in the chemistry club, and participated in track and cross country. Matt has been accepted at Washington State University where he plans to major in mechanical engineering. He is interested in forest engineering and oceanography. His professional goal is to become an Air Force pilot and he intends to complement his undergraduate program with studies in aerospace science through Air Force ROTC. A second award was presented to Laura McCoin, daughter of Col. and Mrs. Lloyd McCoin. Laura graduated from Layton High School where she was active in the National Honor Society, marching and concert bands, and her church softball team. Laura helped organize and run her church library, is in the church youth choir and church youth group, and plays the flute. Laura has been accepted at Baylor University where she plans to major in elementary education and minor in social work. She wants a career where she can help people, especially children. The third scholastic award was given to Timothy Naehring, son of Lt. Col. and Mrs. David Naehring. Tim graduated from Bonneville High School. He was the treasurer for Model United Nations, National Honor Society committee chairman, junior and sophomore classes homecoming committee chairman and and varsity letterman on co-capta- in IIIIIIIMIHIII I eiehieveinmeiniJs.. dfiedl AUTO GLASS Youth Organization, baseball team, Thespian Society and Speech Club where he won the Impromptu Speaking Award. Tim has been accepted at Miami University in Ohio where he will be pursuing a career in accounting. A fourth award was given to Greg Pavich, son of Col. and Mrs. Michael Pavich. Greg graduated from Layton High School where his many school activities included: vice president of the National Honor Society, Boys' State, Model United Nations, Student Senate, Utah Association of Student Councils, math club, chemistry club, varsity golf and basketball, tutor for the math department, received the Outstanding Math Student Award and was voted "Most Likely To Succeed" by his classmates. Greg organized and participated in the 1985 and is active in church where he held many leadership positions. He has been accepted' at the University of Utah and will major in or chemistry with plans to pursue a career in the medical field. Students receiving other scholastic achievement awards were: Jennifer Daskevich, daughter of Lt. Col. and Mrs. Joseph Daskevich. Jennifer graduated from Layton High School where she was active in a variety of school activities including cheerleader, debate club, National Honor Society, Senator Orrin Hatch's Youth Advisory Board, student council, Senior Committee, Thespian Society, Model United Nations, Mock Trial and Layton City Youth Council Sub-for-Sant- pre-medici- r A0Ceinrfi5:ra a, ne Mayor. She was Layton High's Sterling Scholar in speech and drama, and was chosen to appear in "Who's Who Among American High School v Students." Jennifer has been accepted at the University of Utah where she plans to major in political science and pursue a career in law. Andrew Messerli, son of Col. and Mrs. Glenn Mes-seralso received an award. Andrew graduated from St. Joseph High School. He was involved in varsity baseball, football, basketball, track, the Club, the school newspaper and drama club. He was an honor roll student, played the trumpet, piano and sang in his church choir. He worked at an animal clinic for two years and is presently employed as a lifeguard at Lagoon. Andrew has been accepted at Iowa State and will be medicine. Later, he plans majoring in to attend a veterinary school and become a certified doctor of animal medicine. Carvel Wilson, son of Maj. and Mrs. Jerry Wilson (retired) graduated from Clearfield High School. He was Key Club vice president, Model United Nations secretary, and helped to organize and lead the BEST Club, a drug and alcohol awareness group. He was on the state debate team, drama team, tennis team and golf team. Carvel was honored for best speaker by the Clearfield Kiwanis and is very involved in Eagle Scouts. He held various leadership positions in his church youth organizations.
