A1C Eric A. Bowden of the 4487th Aircraft Generation Squadron will pursue a degree in electrical engineering at Washington State University through the Air Force ROTC scholarship program. A1C Eric A. Bowden Airman Bowden has been stationed here since May 1985 as an weapons mechanic in the 4th AMU. TSgt. Michael S. Carter of the 388th F-1- 6 Component Repair Squadron and SSgt. Walter M. Waltz of the 4487th AGS will begin undergraduate studies in summer and, upon graduation, enter Officers' Training School. Sergeant Carter, of Ogden, completed his preliminary requirements at Weber State College and Utah State University. He plans to study com- puter science at Arizona State University. Sergeant Waltz, of Maine, plans to study astronautical engineering at Ohio State University. He has been stationed here since 1983. Both sergeants were selected by the February Airman Education and Commissioning Program Board, a program competitive scholarship tuition-fre- e educations to staff sergeants and above, who remain on active duty while attending school. The AFROTC education program offers active duty airmen a chance to offering compete for scholarships and commissions. Scholarships cover tuition, fees, lab expenses and textbooks plus pays a monthly stipend. Students are discharged from active duty and receive commissions when they complete degree requirements and AFROTC training. They also discussed handling work area hazards such as paint and jet fuel. Participants also exchanged ideas to help them carry out their mission of keeping the command's work force healthy. "We've emphasized occupational medicine to promote the health and wellness of all command people," said Brig. Gen. Willard L. Meader, AFLC Command Surgeon. "The best medicine is preventive medicine," he continued. "Our occupational health programs help increase the awareness levels of our people to job hazards and prevent accidents before they happen. "The occupational health teams also help promote wellness through improved, healthier lifestyles. So even if you work in an office, occupational health programs can help by showing you ways to reduce stress and change bad eating habits. This leads to a healthier person and a more productive worker," General Meader said. Conference attendees included health care professionals from Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Strategic Air Command, Air Force Systems Command and the U.S. Army. Guest lecturers included occupational health experts from the Air Force, private industry, several universities and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
