Show Wednesday, exerdses pirpiire fleet for weapons-system- s capabilities, ed electronic-threa- t environment with simulamore than 50 surface-basetors and an integrated system. The Red-ai-r threat that challenges the tactical air forces is spearheaded by Nellis F-- 5 aggressors, simulating MiG-2- 1 Fishbeds and MiG-2- 3 Flog-gerand is usually augmented by "Red Flag isn't real combat," said Maj. P.T. Finke, chief of the fighter air-defen-se far as realistic training's concerned." The first Red Flag was conducted from Nov. 29, 1975 through Dec. 20, 1975 and was composed of 142 aircrews flying 552 sorties. The initial Red Flag staff consisted of three people working from a single office in the Tactical Fighter Weapons Center. From that beginning, Red Flag has matured in orientation, size and complexity as a result of the continued leadership and support by TAC Commanders Gen. W.L. Creech, Gen. Jerome F. O'Malley and now, Gen. Robert D. Russ. The average exercise today involves virtually every type of conventional capability possessed by free world air forces and consists of more than 300 aircraft of 23 types, flying between 4,500 and 5,000 sorties. "We've reached almost the physical capacity of Nellis AFB to support Red Flag today," Major Finke said. F-14- s, F-18- s, A-4- s have been conducted encompassing 187,000 sorties and 321,000 flying hours. Personnel who have been trained number more than 78,000 aircrew members and 121,000 maintenance and support participants. The 10 years of "war" on the Nellis northern ranges have significantly contributed to the readiness of our combat forces. Red Flag is proud of these accomplishments and looks forward to increasing the quality of future exercises while meeting the challenge the future holds for tactical forces readiness training. By learning to fly smart and fight smart at Red Flag, personnel better prepare themselves to fly, fight, and win should it be required. (TACNS) H m H WE SELL NEW & USED STEEL PIPE.
