Directorate of Plans and Programs A HELP GROW initiative submit- Logistics ted by an equipment specialist in the Problems with Grass Roots Directorate of Competition Advocacy recently received approval from restricting regulations. The initiative was submitted by Operating Vaivers flfc James Nunley who became concerned when Defense Acquisition Regulation Supplement 6 replaced Ogden Air Logistics Center Regulation 57-- 6 which was used in competitive screening. "Many electronic items used on the 6 aircraft require special testing in conjunction with their manufacture. His proposal was reviewed and approved and the Directorate of Competition Advocacy was tasked to use "N" codes to track the items used by the Air Force. A letter, signed by Ogden ALC Vice Commander, Brig. Gen. H.N. Campbell, was sent to Mr. Nunley notifying him of the approval. Since HELP GROW was initiated here in February, more than 290 initiatives have been submitted and more than 75 approvals have been obtained. The program is administered by the Directorate of Plans and Programs and information can be obtained by calling Ext. 75851. Mr. Nunley said. "After the DAR deleted the requirement for 'N' coding and the item required competitive screening, it could not be accurately coded and forced screening personnel to assign inaccurate codes resulting in contractors bidding on items they couldn't test, even though they could manufacture them," he added. The class, titled "Better Biking," is offered to civilian employees and active military members. Dependents of military members are also invited and encouraged to attend. Classes are currently scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Courses begin at 8 a.m. and end at approximate ly 3 p.m. Other classes will be scheduled as the demand requires. Persons desiring to register their motorcycles on base must complete this course. Those attending must bring their motorcycle, helmet, gloves, boots, long sleeve shirt or jacket, and driver's license with them.
