Show HILL TOP TIMES Friday, January 25, m 1 985 I 5 Suggestions gain two more than $2,000 each An electrical engineering technician in the Civil Norman L. Summerill, Directorate of Maintenance, received $2,804 for proposing a repair procedure of replacing fiber bearings inside steel wheels of gear assemblies used in KS-8- 7 cameras. Previously, the "pork chop" gear assemblies were being condemned when any parts were damaged. As a result of Mr. Summerill's repair procedure, reconditioning the bearings was incorporated into the technical orders governing overhaul instructions for the cameras and the Air Force saved $70,142 in restoring camera parts that would have previously been discarded. Others who received awards for their suggestions during the month were: Engineering Division and an electronics mechanic in the Directorate of Maintenance each received monetary awards over $2,000 for their ideas which were approved under the Air Force Suggestion Award Program during November. Paul A. Johnson, Civil Engineering Division, received $2,483 for his idea of installing capacitor banks to main electrical He got the idea because Hill AFB pays a penalty for electrical power that lags below a 90 percent factor. He suggested that capacitors be installed so that electrical energy could be stored in them, thus eliminating low and peak requirements. After the suggestion was approved, the necessary work was accomplished by a contractor and the Air Force realized $59,429 in reduced energy costs. sub-station- s.
