Show AUGUST 11, 1995 Mall teh 'Hie bitrrTL- 1 - i Coach Robert Langston isn't exactly a new face around Miiford High School. He has been an assistant coach for three years, driving from Cedar City and scheduling his life around football and baseball. He did student teaching at M RS. last year before graduating with the Class of '95 from S.U.U. He earned a Bachelor's degree with a major in Physical Education and a minor in History. "P. E. is about the most important subject in school because it is about health. If you're not healthy, you can't do your best at academics or anything," he said. In addition to coaching, Langston will be teaching 7th Utah grade History, 8th and 1 1th grade U. S. History and 9th grade World Geography. He will also be responsible for overseeing a foreign language class, probably Russian, accessed "I'm excited about all of it, and I want to do through a good job," he said. Because he is more visible as a coach, Langston feels a need to strive for a higher standard of excellence in the classroom. "Academics are more important than sports in long-tergoals," he said. First hand knowledge of the challenges and rewards associated with getting an education has instilled a dedication to help students believe in Ed-N- et. m themselves and their ability to learn. "All kids can learn. After 4 Vt years, including 3 years of summer school, I'm living proof that anybody can make it through college," he said. Respect and discipline are the elements he labels as keys to success. His goal for the football team is, of course, to take state. "It's a young team (6 seniors and 7 juniors) but they are skilled players, and definitely have the ability," he said. Conditioning started July 31. The first full pad practice will be August 14. Season competition begins in Parowan on August 25. All of the team members who come out for practice will have an opportunity to play in either the varsity or JV game. "Effort and hustle" are his only demands on the field and in the classroom. Langston doesn't mind the travel time required for some games. "In some ways it works to our advantage. You just have to keep in mind that they travel to our field next time," he growth to of the team would be desirable. Langston said. Population add a to the depth summed up his philosophy by saying, "I just want to be there for the kids. When we win, it's their victory. When we loose, I'll take the blame." With his ; behind him, Langston says he is seriously looking forward the to being discovered by the perfect young lady.
