Saturday afternoon, with Robert Johnson in the irons, he claimed the 7 furlong "Ely Prep" victory in 128 flat. This win followed a 1st in the Beaver Lions Handicap on the 24th. An earlier 5 Vz furlong win in Panguitch was just a warm-u- p for the year. He is now on the way to Ely for a couple of weekends, then on to Elko for Labor Day. Carters bought at DAY a The COULEE Hollywood Park sale when he was a yearling colt. Previous owner was Peggy Gorman. Bob broke the colt and trained him for the track. The has a light racing schedule, and will be turned out for a rest after Elko. Horse racing has been e a hobby for Bob and Irene. "We've had a lot of good horses over the years," Bob said. Harlan Thomas' classy filly, TUXCEDO AFFAIR, came out fast in her number one position on the rail. She held a respectable lead until the far turn, but was unable to go the distance, finishing 4th in the 5th race.
