Show JUNE 23, 1993 JEiKtrtnttir PAGE 9 Unapproved Minutes Beaver County Board of Education June 6, 1995 Kristen Beckstead, daughter of Doug and Carol Albrecht of Minersville and Dave Beckstead of Cedar City has been selected as a State finalist in the 1 995 Miss Teen of Utah Scholarship and Recognitions 1 in Program held June Salt Lake. State Finalists will be judged on scholastic record, service and achievement to school and community, personal development to talents and special interests. Personality and poise in formal wear, judges" interview, and written awareness test. I Kristen has been actively involved in community, church and school, as class officer, participant in volleyball, basketball, track and various other offices and committees. She was President of WAftD, a drug awareness and has held counselor positions in her church classes She has an academic GPA of 3 .85 and is currently employed at Subway in Beaver. Kristen is grateful to Circle Four Farms, SMR, Intermountain Fanners of Beaver and many other sponsors throughout the area who have enabled her to attend and participate in this pageant. Present C. Willden, and Business v 29-Ju- ly . Members 1. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 A.M. and an invocation was offered bv Carl M. Holmes. 2. ft was moved by Pat Rimpau, seconded by G. Brent Edwards, and unanimously passed that the minutes of May 2, 1995, be approved. 3. It was moved by Rondo T. Farrer, seconded by Norman L. Lamb, and unanimously passed that the bills be approved. 4. Dell IWlingshead, Lucille Strong, Jay Gillies, Richard Smith, Shirley Howard, Colleen Boyter.andLaVar Atkin met with the board. Dell Hollingshead, acting as spokesperson, asked the board for time to conduct study oncosts to remodel the old high school and bring up to code andor possible to hnd a use for the building other than a school, many of those present addressed the board. Petition to save the school, with approximately 500600 names will be presented to the board later Superintendent Holmes addressed those present and recommended to the board that demolition be delayed until next June because of the problems we are having with contractors on the new school and the need to probably use the old high school for a couple of months this fall. Areas of concern in the old building will have to be worked out with the State Fire Marshall as per his letter of may 9, 1995. After further discussion it was moved by G. Brent Edwards, seconded by Rondo T. Farrer, and unanimously passed that demolition of the old high school be delayed until June of 1996. No district funding will be used for studies or any other alternate use of the ; building. 5 . Sally Smith met with the board arid asked that the property and mud problem across from her home be corrected. She also presented pictures showing the problem. Will have our maintenance people take care of the problem by the end of June. Debra Thompson would also like to see sod placed around the new school as soon as possible to cut down ' ' ;r""'- : '. dust , KarpiVpp.tod OaLstaidiigTeaikpr Of The Year At Yee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Yee. was recently named the Outstanding Student Teacher of the Year bv the liducation Department at Utah State University. Yee, a Milford High School graduate, has been an active member of L National Reading Council, the USU Multicultural Society and was named the Outstanding in Minority in Utah 1991. 6. Mary Wiseman and others met with the board and asked about providing a counselor or psychologist to help students at Milford High School who may be having problems. She was informed that Gary Jensen will be doing counseling several periods a day and that access to the Southwest Mental Health organization is available most anytime. 7. U.S.B.A. region meeting will be held in Cedar City, June 7th at 6:tijJP.M. ..- 8. Election of U.H.SAA, trustee was reviewed for the A Division. David Skougaard is running and appears to be a good candidate. Cliff LawTence, Jerry Jensen and Ross Wentworth met with the board and reviewed problems with the Mechanical Contractor that are causing delays with the completion of the new high schools and recornrnended that a Notice of Intent to terminate contract be sent to eh MT. Enterprises Bonding Company. After much discussion it was moved by Rondo T. Farrer, seconded by G. Brent Edwards, and unanimously passed that the recommendation be accepted and that attorney, Jerry Jensen be authorized to send the notice. , ..' 1 1. Rob Adams and Eric Jacobson from Circle Four Farms met with the board and reviewed the proposed hiring schedule for the next few years. Will help with planning for student numbers. 12. Tentative budget was reviewed and it was moved by Norrnan L. Lamb jseconded by Rondo T. Farrer, and uiuinimously passed that the tentative budget be approved and that a public hearing be set for adopting the regular budget on July 1 1, 1995 at 2:00 P.M. 13. Staffing needs for next year reviewed and it was moved by Pat Rimpau, seconded by Norman L. Drill Team Advisors for Milford High School reviewed, and it was moved by Pat the aotsor and Rimpau, seconded by G. Brent Edwards that Mary Maxey by approved as Robin Mott as assistant advisor. Upon a call for a vote on the motion there were three votes fcr and two agamst. Motion earned. It was moved by Rondo T. Farrer, seconded by Norman L.
