Plan your visits to cover an optimal amount of time, not the maximum allowable days. Visits have more family bonding power if departure comes when everyone wishes they could stay longer. Accept the fact that there will be differences in opinions. Try to begin and end the visit with your sense of humor in tact. Relationships are more important than proving a point or trying to change others' thinking or ways. Be slow to give advice to another adult. Parents should take along planned activities for younger children. Take them on short walks, trips to the grocery and appreciative. Once the visit is over, a thank you note from children and grandchildren showing appreciation for the time spent together can help strengthen relationships and increase anticipation for the next visit. Letter to Milford Valley Hospital Patrons Based on our recent doctor situation, we feel that it is important to reiterate to our OB patients that routine OB services currently are not available at our facility. Prenatal workup will, however, be continued to be offered at the Clinic. Emergency services will be available 24 hours per day 7 days per week, routine OB services will again be available in the near future. During this interim of time, we have made arrangement with the physicians in Beaver and in Cedar City to see our patients. Please call our clinic if you would like a referral. We wish to thank each member of the communities we serve for their continued support while we go through these trying times. ESA News Turkey Shoot The October business meeting was held at the home of Connie Barnes. Carol Wiseman and Kathy Bedingfield were co hostesses. Cindy Whitney shared with us some great decorating hints and Kathy Bedingfield gave us some history on football at Notre Dame University. Tenaly Bleak showed us some great books that we can order for a fundraiser. ESA will be having their annual Christmas Drawing again this year. We will be giving away a porcelain doll for the girls and a radio controlled car for the boys. Get your tickets from any ESA member. Great refreshments were served and our meeting adjourned. The October social was held at Jammie with Betty Baxter and Karen Thomas home Hardy's as Everyone dressed up as hobos and played games. Taco salads were served and everyone had a good time. There are men and women in this area who fought a war for this very right My husband's service representative notified him that he and many others will be receiving the Normandy Freedom medal. The people of Normandy, France are presenting this medal to the service men who fought and freed the province of Normandy from the Nazi's during World War II. My hat is off to all of them The Lady Lions headed up mis year by Chere Phelps president and Patty Cherry, treasurer will soon be preparing the annual Christmas Party for our small fry. The club raises money be various means during g the year, so that our youngsters can enjoy Christmas goodies, and in the spring the Easter Bunny. We have quite a few Nevada transplants in mis city, of which I am one. My new neighbors are Karen Kenyon, Mark Schaidt and son Klayton who arrived from Pahrump Nv. a month ago. Karen was involved there with Parent Connectioa This group helps parents to fight for special needs for special children. I'm sure she will find a place here that could use her efforts in helping children. Another Nevada transplant and neighbor is Joyce Kennedy. She retired after nearly 30 years at Nellis Air Base in Las Vegas, came here in January of 1995 and built a beautiful brick home. Also, Karen's home has had a face lift and is very nice. All in all our neighborhood is looking great. I just wish I could grow flowers like Joyce does! Thanks to our editor for donating space in this paper for my column. There will be different classes for all shooters: Novice, Intermediate, Expert, Ladies, Youth, etc. If you have never visited our facility (located just north of the water tank) please feel free to stop by. If you have never shot trap before or thought you were not good enough to compete this is the perfect time to try ( it's all for fun). We would encourage anyone who likes shotgunning to give it a shot. The Milford Trap Club was started approximately 10 years ago, and has slowly but steadily grown from one trap house to four traps, a duck tower & club house with patio & deck. Jewell Dahl Obituaryr James Othello "Their Riley Beaver "Their, James Othello Riley passed away ai his home in beaver on November 1 1. 1997 with his wife at his side. He fought a year long battle with a tired heart Thell w as bom to James Martin & Ida Smith Riley on June 4, 1910 in Beaver. He lived his entire hie in the Beaver area, only leaving when his game warden duties sent him into every nook and cranny of the state and into some surrounding stales as well. He was the first game warden some people had ever seen in some of the remote sections of Utah. As a young lad he helped his dad haul lumber out of the mountains and helped build many of the big barns around Beaver, some now being restored. He raised sheep and cattle and was well known as a horse trainer. Only last year he trained a 3 year old cutting horse filly. Tbell was a boxer in his youth and refcrccd boxing matches throughout Southern Utah. Thell married his sweetheart Millie Stai light Lee in Panguitch on Dec. 24. 1934. The marriage was solemnized in the St. George IX)S Temple in 1973. Millie & Thell had two children, Stanley Othello kilcy & Evaryn Kim Riley. Thell was Beaver City Marshall during the 1937-3- 8 era. Thell became a Wildlife Conservation Officer in the early 1940's. He helped establish the elk herd at Indian Peak. He helped manage the antelte and wild horses of west desert. He spoke of often riding his horse upon a ridge and watching atomic dust clouds roll over the desert sometimes covering himself and his e horse in dust. He managed deer herds and was instrumental in the making of the film. "Bucks. Bucks, Bucks" in 1959. He managed pheasants and during the severe winter snows of the 1940's on the Milford flats Thell hauled huge sacks of grain to the starving birds while on snowshoes. Thell lead many searches and rescued many injured people, carrying them to the nearest road on the backs of his horses or by litter. He retired in 1975. Thell's first wife. Millie, died Nov. 17, 1973. Thell married Virginia Lindsay on July 19, 1974 and she died Oct 18, 1983. Thell married Dolores "Carol" Meyer Floyd June, 5 1985 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar City. Thell & Carol loved horses and riding in the mountains, hunting and fishing. Thell is survived by his wife D. Carol Riley of Beaver, Son Stanley (Jean) Riley of Salt Lake, Daughter. Evalyn Kim Riley of Salt Lake. Grandchildren & Great grandchildren. Brother John (Margaret) Riley of Beaver, Brother-in-laGilbert McCulley of Milford, Nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Alverta Riley Kaiser & Leora Riley McCulley. The energetic Williams and a talented runner from Blanding Utah's San Juan High School made it a two athlete race for the first mile and a half of die competition, but the Bronco runner pulled away from Beaver's Williams in the final mile of die race to win a state championship for the four corner's school. The future looks bright for Beaver's Williams as San Juan's runner, a recent transfer from Coronada High School in Arizona, and one of Arizona's top runners the past few years will graduate in May. Second place at the state meet was a tremendous accomplishment for 9th a grade runner who lowered her three mile time sixteen seconds to a school best 19 minute 41 second effort at the Sugarhouse cross country course.
