In the early 1930's Charlie worked as a chef at the Beanery in the "old" Milford railroad depot. He then moved to Hollywood, California, where he was a chef at Thelma Todd's Cafe. The cafe was notorious for it's pie crusts, and all Hollywood patronized the cafe to eat Charlie's pies. When he returned to Nampa, he went in to the construction business. Around 1972, he and his wife were called to a building mission in New Zealand. While there, he worked on 54 LDS chapels, and finished some of the work on the New Zealand Temple. Don Ostler on well at site 103: According to Ostler, water test samples from the well where the back siphoning incident occurred in August of 1996 recently showed 10 organisms per 100 ml. The company is again disinfecting the well. Ostler said this is a very small amount of conform bacteria and may be the result of lab procedures. He said there is no way to prove, one way or the other, whether the bacteria is a result of the back siphoning or contamination from another source. Milford Mary Mayor Wiseman said Tuesday that she wasn't aware that the well was still being treated, but she thinks the company is doing everything exactly right Road Work Resumes: Crews went back to work on the SR21 turn lanes south of Milford on Wednesday morning. Dana Meir, UDOT, said the environmental clearance was granted. He added that this is a county project, constructed with county money. "They have hired their own contractors and engineers," he said. While it is a general rule that asphalt is to be poured before October 1 S, Meir said the county has asked for an extension of that date which he says, will probably be approved if they can complete the work during this "window in the weather."
