Darwin Jolley, Utah State Extension farm University equipment specialist, said diesel should meet these standards: -- 40 or more cetane. -- 0.05 percent water of less. -- 0.5 percent of less sulfur by weight. "The supplier should be able to provide you with his fuel's specifications," Jolley said. "It is important to keep in mind that fuel is blended to keep the cloud point and the pour point under control as seasons change. A reputable refiner will balance bis fuel blend making additives un, necessary," Jolley said , This blend is a reason to avoid buying more fuel than can be used in one season, he said. For example, summer fuel carried over into a colder season may cause filter plugging or the loss of power or performance because of wax crystals or gelling. Jolley says the cloud point is the temperature at which wax crystals will form. These clog lines, filters and strainer screens. The clogging, however, is not permanent. When the fuel temperature rises above the cloud point, the crystals will melt, allowing the fuel to be used, At the pour point, the fuel will no longer flow. This is called gelling, and it, too, is reversible. Jolley recommended that far mers ask their dealers about seasonal blends so they can more effectively plan fuel purchases. He added that indiscriminate use of fuel additives may add to problems rather than solve them. "Many advertising claims fot Uie benefits of fuel additives sound great," Jolley said. "The research seems to indicate otherwise. Be careful what fuel you buy. , Obituaries LEWIS R, LIMB BEAVER - Lewis Robert Limb, age 64, died June 8, 1990 in the Beaver Valley Hospital.
