CHURCH NEWS Bill Wagner By Life in the fast lane. ..Some people call it "the rat race". A rare that no one ever wins. Everyone knows this but we all keep trying anyway. As Christians we do not have a formula for winning the "rat race" but we do know that we can make it more livable. We run together and with God. The race is one! Are you going to run alone, without the support and companionship of others, or will you joinus?"CatchtheSpirlt" See you in church! street our direction. 1 nen me inroiKB,' i ed, They cnurt whatever they can get their hands on; lately, it has been crab apples which are in good supply in our neighborhood. Rocky looked to me for guidance, about then one of the apples hit the living room window, sounding for all the would like it broke. Fortunately, It was ripe and just splattered. "All right," I told the dog, "Let's give 'em something to brag to their buddies about. Get 'em Rocky!" I didn't have to tell him twice. They then proceed down to the stop sign on the corner and 6tand out In the middle of the street and challenge cars to run over them. The drivers honk and the 10:30 Gang shouts obscenities. After they get tired of that, they mosey on down to the convenience store. On the way home, the whole routine is repeated. I suppose all of this Is because they are bored now that school is out and they don't have anything to think about. Rocky and I decided to liven things up a bit for them, so that their whole summer wouldn't be a total waste. Now, Rocky got his name for a couple of reasons, but one of them happens to be because he loves a good physical contest against insurmountable odds. Rocky knows the 10:30 gang. One of them does a particularly lously imitation of a barking dog in hedge and in Just two bounds was across the street in hot pursuit. Just a quick note here, to the High School track coach: Coach, if you would like to set some new records this year, I suggest you contact the 10:30 gang. They can really move (at least when 75 lbs. of dog is hot on their heels!) Don't recruit the one with the checkerboard pattern on his chest, though. He's not overly bright-t- ried to strain himself by running through the neighbors chain link fence. Rocky comes from a long line of Intelligent dogs. His mother, pure -- bred Border Collie, chased a window -- peeker for almost l2mlle one wlntery night after being told to slip out the back door and when they come by, which Rocky really hates, so every time they come anywhere near, ol Rocky lets me know right away. The other night, we just sat in the shadows and waited for 10:30 to roll around. Rocky quivered in anticipation, I fell asleep. Pretty soon they came down the street, but for some reason they passed us by without causing any trouble. They did stop at the corner and shout filthy phrases at passing drivers for a minute before continuing on. The dog and I just sat still and waited. About half an hour later, back they came. On Thursday, Aug. 18, the football team held a scrimmage and those of us who went quite enjoyed seeing Milford vs Milford. As school hadn't started yet, all was not as prepared for spectators as it could've been. The weeds had taken over the bleacher section and it vas hard to fight off the jack stickers as you tried to m ake your way to find a seat. The scrimmage was fun and Milford won! The coach and team also saw the condition of the area surrounding the foot ball field and Friday morning these dedicated young men and Coach Marv could be found doing a different practice routine it was called "weeding" The grounds certainly look much better team! Although this "weedingandclean up" is not required of our football palyers, we do appreciate the concern and hard work the toys did to make the next football game more enjoyable for all of us who cheer them on. We just followed them right to his home. After we found out who it was we could hardly keep the dog from giving chase all over again whenever the guy came by the house. I've never explained to any of the trained dogs we have owned what they are supposed to do If they catch one of these intruders, I guess I'll just leave it up to the dog's own discretion; I really suspect though, that Rocky just loves the chase.
