Show MEATO COUNTY mW: (ISSN n VOL.88 0896-331- 2) MUford City Council began their on June 20, 1988 at 7:10 p.m. Those present were Councilm embers Davis, Romine and Florence; Treasurer Kirk, Le adman Whiting, Norm Lamb, Val Kofed L Aldea Roblson with Sunrise Engineering, and the Beaver County Mews. Councilman Davis served as Mayor Pro --tens In the absence of Mayor Mayer. Norm Lamb presented Council with plans for construction of a new Baptist Church and also recommended that Leon Gay be on the Zoning L Planning Committee to fill a vacancy. Representatives Kofed L Robinson from Sunrise Engineering met with Council to discuss various proposals for the financing of the Main Street Project. This project is to consist of the widening of Main Street and upgrading of Milford's sewer system. It wa3 stated that UDOT would be responsible for the curb & gutter and road base, while Mllford City would be responsible for sidewalks and sewer improvements, at a total estimate of $480, 000. from which Milfords portion of the cost would be around $242, 000. Sunrise further stated that this project could affect current sewer rates by approximately $2.09 per month to qualify for. their suggested proposal. Sunrise representatives also Indicated that the project could be completed by the middle of next summer. Council unam -lously approved permission forSun-ris- e Engineering to proceed with their assistance towards this project. Minutes from the June 6, 1988 meeting were approved as corrected. Le adman Whiting expressed the and need for inspection, other' repairs on the City pickup. Council clarified that $500 ha3 been authorized for this purpose at a previous meeting. Councilman Ro-- r mine, pointed out that the City is in the process of obtaining more bids' for the purchase of a new pickup. Davis indicated Mayor Pro-ter- n that the City has not yet received reports from the EPA concerning old storage tanks. He indicated that p$ is trying to set up a seminar between the State Fire Marshall and the EPA to obtain guidelines 'for Mllford City and the surrounding area. He mentioned that the City needs more information on new regulations in order to find out what should be done. Council discussed the police contract phone system Indicating that the Police Department should pay for long distance calls which they make, and the City will pay for local calls. Council chose to make no official decision pertaining to the Police Contract at this time, and suggested holding a specialme-etin- g prior to the Budget Hearing on June 27th. Council stated that the City has purchased a new storage building for $7000. They further indicated that the City is in process of reaching an agreement with the Rail- - Milford City Council Meeting road, so that the building would not have to be moved to another location. Councilm anRomine suggested installing a large door on the North side of the building to allow for storage of equipment. Council approved the minutes of the Special Meeting which was held June 17, pertaining to an executive session for the purpose of purchasing property. Council reviewed the business License ordinance which had been presented by Attorney Kanell. They discussed a reciprocal agreement wherein persons with business licenses could do business in other parts of the County without having to obtain additional licenses. Councilman Florence expressed his concern that there are to many businesses in other parts of the County who could take advantage of this agreement and that he felt Mllford would "come up short". Councilman Romine suggested returningthe ordinance to Attorney Kanell for , m new-brak- EEAVER SUMMER THEATER The Beaver Civic Arts is pleased to announce the summer theater season for 1988. The season will begin with the children's production of "Tumbleweeds." This play is based on the popular comic strip created by T.K. Ryan. This play will run June 23, 24, and 25, at 7:00 p.m. nightly with a matinee on Saturday, June 25, at 1:00 p.m. Also on the schedule this summer Is 'Charley's Aunt" and "The Dining Room." "Charley's Aunt" begins July 25 and continues through the 6, 7, and 8. It was written by Brandon Thomas and is the story of two college roomates who dress their friend as their aunt to im- press their girlfriends' parents. ed The play is filled with humor which arises from m understandings. "The Dining Room" will play July 21, 22, 23, and 25. The play was written by A.R. Gurney and is a mixture of interrelated scenes -some funny, some touching. The Beaver Civic Arts invites you to come and enjoy another wonderful season of summer plays at the Beaver Opera House Theater. All tickets are available at Lee's store in Beaver. Councilman Florence mentioned that at a previous meeting approval had been given for funding on the landscaping of the pool. He indicated that some questions had risen because the approval had never been entered in the Minutes. Council unanimously voted to have this Information entered into the minutes. Councilman Florence also Indicated that the landscaping project was progressing well and that sod had been ordered. Councilman Florence reported that Librarian Kathleen Jones bad been in Salt Lake to see ab"ut a grant for improvements at the Library. He Indicated that she would know by July 1 if the grant had been approved. Councilman Florence also indicated that with matching funds, various improvements could be made Including lowering the celling, a new lighting system, insulation, new windows, a rear door new furnace, and an air conditioner. A second letter will be sent to property owners who did not respond to the initial letter they received concerning clean-u- p of their property. The swimming pool was discussed The people of Minersville and the surrounding communities are enjoying the new pool. Most of the problems that have come up are being worked out quickly. The sprinkling system Is nearly complete and the grass and shrubs will be planted soon. Gravel needs to be laid in front of the pool to help control the mud. There have been numerous complaints concerning the motorcycles and also complaints have been received concerning cars late at night. Marshall Kevin Carter has been advised to watch for violators.
