A day like that I could But my "day" understand. has now lasted about two weeks. It seems I am Just in a down mood and for no good reason. In fact, I should be in a really "up" mood. Mallna is home, back in school and doing great; my parents came down for the Mothers' Day weekend and we all had a good time; dad helped me get the yard work done and the yard in shape to start the planting season; and I received really neat gifts for Mothers' Day. All in all - things are going pretty good. But, I still feel Blah. I told my boss today "I didn't want to get up and come to work today and now that I am here, I don't want to do much of anything." I didn't even have my column written. Maybe it's the weather. One day it's warm and sunny. The next day it's cloudy, raining and cold. In fact the first thing you notice as you enter is the perfect setting for the "B" that is on Black Mountain at the east - also, the snow capped Mount Baldy to the east and Mount Belnap that dominates our little town. It has an air about it that coaxes everyone who ever lived here to return. Their roots have settled down so deeply in the rich meadow land that it's hard to ever drift away for long. Its stately old homes stand firm and tall after a hundred years. They command respect, wonderful old homes of brick and stone, roomy enough for large families. Houses you hope to inherit in the years to come. They never complain if a "room or two are added on by a younger generation. Most of these homes were occupied by the old time families of Beaver such as the Andersons, the Lowes, the Taltons, the Briggs, the Smiths, the Gillies, the Mur-docthe Farnsworths, the Hursts, the Lindsays, the Woodhouses, the Burts, the Yardleys, the Bartons. A lot were pioneers who came from England to work in the Beaver Wooden Mills. You look at the huge chim -neys, the artistic wood work along the eves, the warm mellow bricks, the solid walls, and you know that they took pride in them and they will pass from father to son through the centuries, and will indure for many years to come. Beaver was always a place for good old winter apples, and there are many planted throughout the town. It was always a good place to grow ks, raspberries, gooseberries and current bushes. Some are still growing in vacant lots. Who could forget the lovely you see lilac bushes that throughout the town, even and Adamsville. There were always two lilac bushes planted on both sides of the front gate of almost every home awaking many memories. Don't forget the moss roses that were in every back yard and the beautiful yellow roses over fences and down the lanes. The old pink rock mill is now being made into a home. It started its renovation last summer. Many a tale it could tell of the Miller and the farmer who struggled long hours to get their wheat made into flour. What about the "Old Opera House" which is now being made into a Civic Center. Many of the lawn dances and movies were held in that building. Maybe the ghost Charlie Chaplin still lingers down into Greenville near there. C9 P fc 91 Si I 9 M Q Q The old court housa, one of my favorites, has been preserved. These were some of the types of people who made the town as it is. Anytime of day one may ride east, west, north or south and cows may be seen grazing contentedly in the green pastures. Whatever the reason(s) I had just about given up and decided not to bother writing a column today when I came across the following. And, since the column did get done after all, obviously- it changed my outlook on some things, at least a little.
