Even though the emergency statement is provided before hiring an individual, supervisors must ensure that they deny or withhold access to classified information or material pending completion of the required investigation. It is also important that supervisors immediately begin processing the required paperwork to obtain the security clearance. When clearance information is received, the AF Form 971, Supervisors Record of Employees, must be documented to reflect the date, level of clearance investigation. Organizations may retain the notice of clearance until its purpose has been served. It will then be disposed of according to AFM When an individual transfers into an organization from another unit or base, a new clearance request is not required when the person has already been cleared.
